yeah........they do.that's why they're cool :)
We need to start a thread with all the gauge face options for the E30 (unless there is already a thread)Comment

They look like the displays on the Next Generation's Enterprise. If you want to be a tastless '90s Trekie, get those gauge faces.
The reason why the Ferrari cluster looks so good is that, while colorfull, its is simple. The colors are in blocks, the color selection is narrow (only black, white yellow), the fonts are simple, and the lines are few and restrained. If you want something different thats cool.
FWIW, I don't like the chrome rings on e30 clusters either. I can think outside the box with different colors or whatever but when it comes to a Tutonic sports sedan, simpler is better and less is more.Comment

Oh, and BTW those faces are only for Euro Clusters (the econoguage travel is in the opposite direction)Comment

"On subject"-has anyone changed out the bulbs for alternate colors on the dash?
i did this in my old Nissan 240. It was pretty easy though, cause you could actually reach up under the dash and change the bulbs out with taking anything off :)
changed to blue

here's half 'pink' (looked more like red) into the blue transition

And that too looks like 100% shit. And I have an open mind when it come to shit.
I think you need to go back to your Nissan Sentra.Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?Comment

I agree, or more like the e46. Now those are perfectly lit.Maybe its been said already.... but what i dont understand is why oh why someone hasnt sat down and thought to themselves: "Replicate stock e30 gauge faces... make them amber backlit like the e36." I mean its possible to do... But these venders just choose to reinvent the wheel. Why? If e30 owners want something a little more modern its a stock gauge thats backlit. I dunno.. ahha.

It is illuminated better. Yet with e36s, I've noticed that a majority of them are starting to "dim" out in areas. I think they perfected it in the e46. George, you should do something to make the e30 cluster a brighter orange as seen in e46s. And seeing how that lighting is the same 'brightness' throughout the car (when you turn/twist the lights knob left to right, it dims or brightens the rest of the interior) maybe theres a way to do that to the rest of the instruments?
I hope some of this makes sense lol.
EDIT: Just realized I'd have to swap out bulbs, and possibly try to find one that has an orange hue to it so it doesn't wash out the orange stuff in the clutster.Last edited by Edev; 02-27-2010, 08:45 PM.M CoupeComment

I know the e30 ones are technically backlit, but not in the same sense as the other models. I honestly really think that the majority (at least lets say 50%) of the light illumination on the e30 is a result of the front light. Its been about a year since i had my cluster apart, and i know that the plastic on the two main gauges is clear... but i wouldnt call the gauge illumination 100% backlit. On the other models... the light output is entirely from the rear of the gauge.E30 Dinan Turbo
