I had them pay for a profesional apraiser come look at my car. He said that they were on my side, I gave him all my repair paperwork and he appraised my car for 5,400 wich is a very fair price after progressive said it was worth 1,500.
Bottom line is never give up the fight.

How fucking stupid is it that you have to pay $200 to get somebody to get the insurance company to do what you paid it to do in the first place?

i didn't pay 200 for anything.... it was the insurance companies appraisers... not sure what your getting at... your sentence is a little confusing.

Ah. I thought you paid to get it independently appraised. The point being, what the hell are you paying for insurance for if all they do is try and fuck you over?

I dunno. I just hate insurance companies. There are a million stories just like yours, and many don't end happily.

The real question is "why the hell is anyone getting anything other than liability only on an E30?" I mean, I guess I can see stated value, but even then...

So when someone slashes your mint convertible top you don't have to buy a new one out of pocket?

I had comprehensive on my last car, a $3-4k '97 Maxima. Somebody smashed my window, I got $1100 from insurance. $60 spent at a junkyard later it was good as new.

well they are not giving me the money to fix it.... the shop forwards the bill to my insurance company... so i wont be benefiting from anything.. except a new top like my previous one... so im happy.

thats great! and you shouldnt 'benefit' from it. people who try and make a dime from insurance claims adds to the problem of insurance being such a crock.

Fuck that. Regardless if you choose to fix it, you should be compensated for every part that's broken and all the labor it would take to replace it. What would you say if after you dealt with a broken window and glass in your car, or a soft top that someone slashed for a few days to have it looked at and then your insurance company said "well you look handy, here's $100, go to a junkyard, find a replacement and do it yourself."
