And again, fight them on it. There's no reason a convertable top is worth more than the car, even if it is expensive. KBB on these cars is still in the $5,500 last I checked for "excellent" condition.
exactly. If you ever try to sell it and the buyer is that concerned about a salvaged title over a ripped top, fuck the guy and find someone else who doesn't have a stick up their ass.

or fuck the insurance for giving him a bullshit salvage title. dont sign anything, and dont accept anything, they will usually work with you if your not a fucking moron, and have your shit straight, and have a e30 thats actually worth more than $3000. just keep fighting there offers and they'll usually come up a quite a bit.

yes but they are telling my if they come appraise the value of the vehicle and say its only worth 3, then they are going to salvage it and theres no going back from there... is this true?

well of course if they send their own dude out there to appraise it, he's only going to appraise it for 3k tops. They are trying to lose the least amount of money in this situation. Insurance companies are full of fuckers. Dont take no for an answer. Have an outside professional do it. Show them the kbb (unless its like 3k lol) show them CL ads. Ill try to dig some up for you, for some reason San Diego CL thinks everything is worth a million bucks

edit: not sure if you want only cabbys or not. Heres some e30s I found real quick:

remember, insurance companies are not here to help you. they are here to get rich. of course they'll try to fuck you. gieco tried putting a rusty junkyard rim on my sisters crv. i told her not to take it to the geico body shop.

                  so new update..
they now say oh sorry. since your car is a vandalism case and not a collision, when the appraiser comes he cannot write the vehicle off... sounds like im talking to some newb...
so tuesday he will be coming to appraise the vehicle.. i will have all my info ready to present and try to get this sorted out. what a head ache.

Insurance does not cover our cars. I had 8k worth of receipts for my white coupe (see sig), plus whatever the car was worth, insurance offered me $1200. I sent them similar ads where cars similar to mine sold for 6-7k, they offered me $1400. I had the car professionally appraised, came back at $6000, they offered me $2000. I sent them the bill of sale for when I purchased the car two weeks prior for $3500, they offered me $3000 and wouldnt budge any higher.

Moral? Get your car insured for what you feel its worth BEFORE anything happens. Do not insure it for book unless you want to get fucked.

Edit: This took place over the course of 3 months, all the while I was without a car, despite the fact that I was hit by another driver who was found to be 100% at fault. Never use Liberty Mutual, they are pieces of shit.

I would go this route if they don't fix the top.

These cars may be cheap to insure but they're not easy to insure - especially when it comes to establishing a value on them (totalled or repaired). To 95% of the population these are old cars and they'll be valued as such. That being said, as someone who works on the other end of this (I'm not an adjuster) insurance companies can't just make stuff happen at the snap of the fingers. Auto insurance is a state-regulated process just like a whole lot of other stuff and because something isn't fair doesn't mean it's automatically said company's fault. There are regulations in place for how they are supposed to repair, value, total, and title a car. It's even more confusing since all of this can differ from state to state.

Good luck with the car and hopefully it will get fixed (properly). If it was mine and it got totalled - I'd keep it, get whatever title the state tells you to and throw a new top on there. Bam. Done. Keep on drivin'

you're asking 7k on kijiji, which is so overpriced for a early model vert.

i sold my late model with like 98,000miles for 5500$...and it was in mint shape!

good luck with the insurance dude.
