I Can't Stop Obsessing! I Have 318is Fever!

Got this one for $500. Had a cracked lower oil pan. I have since spent probably $1500 doing maintenance and mods. Will hopefully have the Ronal LS' refinished and on the car later this week.




Having driven an E30 M3, 325is, and now this 318is, I would say I like them all. Each has their strong points. The M3 is pretty high strung for street use, but really sings up top. The torque of the six is great, and the sound is very hard to beat. ( I LOVE the sound of straight sixes.) The light weight and power band of the 318is is fun and reminds me of the M, while being easier to live with every day.

You could always swap an M42, they go for like $250 complete. And pick up a transmission for under $100.

I really dunno why anyone would do this. Maybe coming from an m10? But even then save up another 300-400 bucks and do an m50 swap.

buy an i!! the 18iS has like 5 hp more, and less torque than your eta-- it will also bore you FAST "the supposed nimbleness. an S14 has about 65 hp more than the M42, it is like comparing apples to oranges-- and an S14 is pretty weak too- so you can just imagine what to expect from an iS.

I feel your pain I sold my slick top a few months back, now I desperatly want it back. I found mine at a ford dealer, had no clue what he had on his hands. Dealer wholesale lots are your friend with these cars. They dont spend the $ to advertise these cars, and dont know what they have on their hands.

They are great cars, and the deals are still out there. If you are looking to get in low buck, it may take a little longer, but it will happen.

Yeah, 318iS are starting to demand a premium. And the nostalgia caused by the new 335iS will only make them go higher. You can prolly find a 318i in better condition for less money, if you don't mind the two extra doors.
