Got this one for $500. Had a cracked lower oil pan. I have since spent probably $1500 doing maintenance and mods. Will hopefully have the Ronal LS' refinished and on the car later this week.
Having driven an E30 M3, 325is, and now this 318is, I would say I like them all. Each has their strong points. The M3 is pretty high strung for street use, but really sings up top. The torque of the six is great, and the sound is very hard to beat. ( I LOVE the sound of straight sixes.) The light weight and power band of the 318is is fun and reminds me of the M, while being easier to live with every day.

You guys are awesome.
I have no interest in a 318i. I would love a 325i or 325is, but the problem there is that out of the box they are aren't fast enough, but they are quick... I'm not sure how to explain what I really mean. ~They have potential to be pretty quick, but it takes a lot more than I can afford to spend to make that happen.
Thats what I have my M3 for.
Whether it be a 318is or 325is. Both are amazing cars and I wouldn't complain having either one, but I like the idea of my other BMW being a 4 cylinder. Mainly for the nibble handling and gas consumption because my M3 drinks like a damn V8 sometimes.-NickOriginally posted by 87e30First of all: calm the fuck down; second of all; cool story bro.

The only joy you will get out of a 318is is IF its been maintained. So if you get a cheap one, plan on spending the couple hundred to bring it up to par. Also it has alot less torque than a eta. You'll enjoy it only if your autox or on the track when your going fast enough and at high enough rpm...that brings you back to having a properly maintained car. Daily driving is boring unless you drive crazy on the streets and rev your car.
318is are not quick...unless you have the $$$ to work on the engine. Just well balanced to handle corners so I think you'll be dissapointed.Renting my rear wheel bearing tool kit. SIR

And then my other problem is what to do with my eta!? I go back and forth trying to decide what to do with it. 327i?! Leave it stock and just drive it!? Its really hard to not want to mod.

I'd just leave the eta stock, maybe put a chip in it and a rear end but that's it. They are fun DD's as long as you only rip on it in first gear.

also your eta gets better mileage than a 318is. I've been looking at getting a eta for that reason.Renting my rear wheel bearing tool kit. SIR
