I don't see what the point of saying drifting is not a sport is. It's kind of like all those people in high school who laughed at the kids playing badminton. Anyone can come up with reasons to poke holes at any sport, who gives a fuck? Let the people do what they want to do. Drifters say grippers are retarded, grippers call drifters retarded, it's not going anywhere lol. Every motorsport has skills to be developed, and with those skills come people that are better than others, which leads to competition. To me, competition is the only thing needed to lead to a formal sport. Hell, pimpin' could probably be a sport if it isn't already. It just depends how much interest there is among the people who participate to get the ball rolling and get things formally organized. People who deny the sportsmanship of participants of any sport are just retarded. If you don't have an interest in their sport, then just shut the fuck up and move on to something else, I'm sure they don't really care. Are you gonna write a letter to the makers of Iron Chef or Food Network because you feel cooking as a sport is just stupid? Every sport has their own set of skills to showcase, some sports have a few of the same skills. Just because gripping and drifting both involve cars doesn't mean there isn't a need for one or the other. American football and regular football both require running, does that mean there can only be one of them? I sure hope not. I don't even remember what this thread was about anymore after reading all 4 pages.

There is no real "winners" in drifting - it has to be judged. Like ice skating. Or a dog show. Hence - it's not a sport. That and it's gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.

I'm sure there are plenty people out there who could justify ice skating as a sport. Unfortunately, I'm not a participant in either sport, so I don't have the background nor will to give you a counter-argument. :D All I got to say is, if there's no winners in drifting, then what are trophies for? :P Obviously the judges announced them the best in terms of the judging criteria, therefore a winner. In other motorsports, such as drag or grip, the clock is the judge.

I dont get why all this "Highschool" talk. Who the fuck is in highschool? Who cares if sliding your is isnt a sport. Its a rush to push your car. Not everyone can do it or has balls to. Im not a madd tight drifter yo but I do take my car to the limit so I know how far I can push.

ppl dont drift or streets( well at least in LA ) theres plenty of areas where no one is around ever...

For the vid I posted it not "drifting" its more lie controlled uber large donuts , You have to counter steer or your going into the curb. Its a learning spot just to fuck around and work on entry speed ,e brake and etc... I love it but my tires hate it haha. You dont need madd crazy power or WATER . Just have responsible fun and be safe.

OP, I bet if you google drifting you will find more helpful answers. None of us give a shit about it, and the kids that do usually only own their e30s temporarily before they stuff them or upgrade to a 240.
