Just did a 287mile trip in my 318is which is bone stock with the exception of h/r sport springs and bilstein shocks.

Calculated miles from fillup to fillup and got 33.8mpg!

Pretty awesome even with a trunk/back seat filled packed full of stuff.

ive been driving my 88 100+ miles a day for the past few months

thats pretty good mpg though, i get like 24/26 mpg on the highway

I've heard of people getting 40mpg with their m10's. I think Im going to try throwing a 2.79 in there, and possibly tall tires. How about 2,000 rpm at 80 :rofl

Yah i once heard 60mph is generally the optimum speed for cars, but less wind resistance means we can probably do better a little faster.

^ yep. get it as low as possible. also cover the entire bottom with a hard plastic and fill in all forward facing holes, ie brake ducts, kidneys, grills, etc.

with my 4.10 m50 and 65mph I was getting like 22mpg.
I put a 3.73 a couple weeks ago. Ill make a post about my results when I do another NorCal trip.

For a good portion of 2008, I was working as a process server which had me rack up some miles on the car; and since I wrote off as many expenses as possible, I kept a detailed log of miles driven and fuel used. Here are some numbers from my record keeping....

Car: 1991 325i, 5 speed, 3.73LSD, 225/50-15 tires, 195K miles (back then), no engine mods
Most miles from a tank: 363
Fuel consumed: 13.9 gallons
Average mpg: 26.11
*Disclaimer* due to my slight oversize tire aspect ratio, the numbers are likely not totally accurate (~1% inflated compared to stock figures)

This was my absolute best result from a tankful which was all highway driving while keeping a steady speed of 65-70 and very conservative acceleration/braking as well (this was when gas was selling at $4.50/gal. too!). The late model E30s hold 14.5 gallons so there wasn't much left - probably 10-15 miles worth of fuel remaining.

There were many times where I had the fuel light come on around the 330 mile mark and I would refill at ~350 miles. Usually there was less than a gallon remaining in the tank since anywhere from 13.5 to 14.0 gallons would go back in at the next fill up.

St. Louis to Detriot in a chipped but basically stock eta I averaged 28.2 mpg. That's what the OBC says anyway. I didn't check tire pressure at each fillup because it was at night and crappy weather. On my way back I'm sure I'll get over 30.
