Side mirror auto-tilt in reverse

This actually isn't an easy problem to solve.

Luke with the set up you described, what would happen when you do a quick 5 point parallel park job? What happens if you give it a bit more gas going forward, and the alternator has a bit more current to provide, and the 2 seconds in that direction moves the mirror a tiny bit more each time? How will it know when it was left in reverse and shut off, and switched to 1st? Would it short out if someone tried to manually move the mirror while it was moving on it's own? There are about 1000 different ways that a "dumb" controller wouldn't work.

The controller has to have a brain - and it has to be able to know of figure out where the mirror is.

You (and I) can pick apart every damn solution for everything that ever was. Everyone can fuck up damn near anything, right? I personally am content with either moving my head or taking that 2 seconds to twitch my thumb on the knob.

Guys, this feature came out in 1989 on the E32 cars. If you have moved one of them, you would know just how inaccurate this thing is/was...there ain't no laser guided parabolic mirror assisted point to point focused microwave parking assistant, just a damn mirror that tilts down some. Jerk around on the shifter and the damn thing jerks around too.

Not fucking one of us on this thread is smart enough to even pare down (hell, 95% don't know the proper usage of "pare"!) the electronic circuitry necessary to control a mirror, especially if you wanna even consider using some kind of servo-controlled motion sensing mirror adjuster...I swear, it is just a damn timer!

That is what I said. It was, and they did. Hell, do a 3 point turn and the mirrors needed to be readjusted.

There's gotta be a way. Mark my words, in the near future I'll have mirrors that rotate downwards when the transmission is put in reverse, an H-pattern shift cover like in Lambos, and a goddamn NASA spec rocket engine. Pimpest fuckin E30 on the planet.

I can honestly say I have replaced atleast 15 pass. mirrors on newer BMWs from e39 to e61s in the last 2 months at work. there are still many problems with this system at BMWs level.-- The problem I see with your idea Luke is-- how are you going to get the mirror to go back into the same position everytime. the new BMWs have a bad problem with that- I cannot see a simple system actually working well.

My idea was a simple work around.

Any of you guys taking shit about my idea have a better one? I haven't seen one yet...and AFAIK, a simple timer is what BMW uses, even today.
