Hopefully this is not off topic, but I rather have the side view mirrors fold-in automatically when I shut the car off. I think that is more useful than the pass side mirror tilting for reverse. After all, insurance companies bank on the simple hickups like smashed off side mirrors and the love-tapped bumpers.

I can't wait to see the plans for power folding mirrors on an E30.

It seems like the best solution would be to have the mirror tilt down on an entirely separate tilting system than is used to adjust the mirror. this way you don't have to worry about the mirror drifting away from its original setting over time. Just some simple mechanism like on the bottom of the rearview mirror that changes the angle of the mirror when bright lights shine in your eyes.Comment

^Very, very good idea. A solenoid would work.Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?Comment

Little delayed on this response, but I agree, that is a great idea. Wonder if there is room in the mirror housing for the additional brace/bracket to pivot off of. But then that's half the battle... what 'module' would control it?1988 M3 - Garage Queen

Holy necrothread.
But, to actually give constructive criticism..
This could EASILY be achieved with a PLC.
But.... That would be seriously undermining the other capabilities you COULD do with the same PLC.Comment
