Has anyone checked with any racing bodies (SCCA, BMWCCA, NHRA) to find out whether this is legal. I haven't heard that question asked.

man why hadn't I though of this?!?!! Finally found the perfect material for a roll cage in my cabrio. We all know the cabrios flex a little bit due to the lack of roof. I've been hesitant about adding a cage because I didn't want put anything in it that would make the ride too stiff and lose that engineered flex. The PVC will be perfect because it will flex as the car does. I'll need to make a PVC strut bar for the cabrio as well!

i'll have to look into that. Although with my car being lowered, i'd have to use smaller diameter PVC so it wouldn't scrape the ground. Guess I will have to bite the bullet and reinforce it with the hot glue method.

I'm liking the PVC roll bar idea (I don't want the weight penalty of metal). However, I had one question. On the rear down bars, can I bow them out against the sides of the car, like some of the metal roll bars on the market, so I can still put friends in the back seat? Also, can I use some 1/4" pipe for a harness mount?

I hope your project is coming along nicely when you get hans the BMW roundel can you take pics next to your cage? I really cannot wait to see this thing.

This might be the biggest achievement since cardboard brake ducts.

I cut the metal roll bar framing off my Jeep once and redid it using PVC. Looked great and saved weight. Rolled it once or twice trying to drift around a truck and u-turning car but still came out alive partially due to the PVC and partially due to my driving abilities anyone else would have died.
