    but which site? :p

there's more than one. the msextra site is definitely more active & up to date. the B&G official MS site is a bit dated, but firmware development has pretty much been taken over completely by the extra developers - B&G are focusing entirely on hardware now. Not to mention the number of different vendors out there selling hardware - diyautotune for example probably has some of the best customer service in the industry.

Put the extra code in MS1 and it will do anything a basic motor like an M10 or M30 will ever need, replacing it with the 700 dollar unit will not get you any more HP or any better MPG out of the simple motors, is all you have done is waste money. You'll probably want MS2 or better if you have vanos/dual vanos. You can do it with the extra code but not correctly. So yes, MS1 ( with a free downloadable firmware update ) is every bit as good as the 700$ P&P setup where it counts, making the motor do the right thing at the right time.

If you have never played with Megasquirt, MS1 with extra is about as easy as MS gets, most all of the inputs are done as a basic number, percentages or time, pretty easy units to grasp.

I had Ms1 extra on my m42, it was awesome. Very user friendly.

didn't want to start an MS1 vs MS2 argument (and I don't agree), but I specifically pointed out the MS1 V2.2 board which is a fuel-only crapfest. I wouldn't wish a V2.2 board on my worst enemy. ;)

You'll point out a bunch of things that you can program to the n'th degree that do not make one bit of difference to the M10 or M30, they started life as carbed motors, they need spark at the right time and fuel in the right quantity, that's it. You won't make any more HP with MS2 and all it's fancy shit ON A BASIC MOTOR like those.

To correct you on that last one let us look at the Megamanual for the extra code, here, http://www.msextra.com/doc/ms1extra/...l.htm#desextra Is it just me or does the second sentence specifically mention your 2.2 fuel only crapfest board. Let's see,

This code can be run on any version of B+G Megasquirt PCB (V1.0, 2.2 or 3.0) using the MS1 (68HC908) microprocessor.

            I believe it does.

            :pimp:

              ugh

the V2.2 board sucks, it doesn't have much CPU protection, it has no VR input, it has no coil driver, it was designed for fuel only. yes you can use the extra code and run spark, but then you have to do a bunch of add on hardware to make it work. When you can get a 3.0 board that has it all built in, why bother?

also, I never said anything about making more HP, that's all you. ;)
