So i got my first ticket and need advice.

After 5 years of driving, my reckless driving caught up with me Sat night :D
But i got a $115 ticket for running a stop sign.

First off, that seems a little steep for that.
Second, i didnt run it, i came to a stop, but i didnt see it too well and i stopped a little passed it, but it was kind of a rolling stop, but i thought i stoped enough. And being a little past it and no cars at the intersection at like 11pm i kept going.

I saw the cop hiding right after i took off and knew i was fucked.

I never got a ticket and dont know if i have grounds to fight this. Ok i know i may have done wrong, but i dont think its worth $115 and 3 points on my license.

and btw, this wasnt out on the streets it was on a college campus and i think it was campus security (maybe) that gave me the ticket.

But let me know what you guys think, or some advice!

If you can do some kind of traffic school and avoid the points against you on your license do that.

College cops or cops that hang around the college are brutal. They look for any excuse to pull you over in hopes of finding DUI students. The officer who saw you blow the sign probably said, "alright...here is another DUI rack for me."

      1. Option 1 is to go to school

      2. option 1 is to fight it in court. If you do this, before the actual trial starts, ask the officer if you can plead to a non moving violation. If he says no, then fight for your life.

A suggestion I do not endorse:

Go back to the scene and steal the stop sign. Take a picture of the intersection with the stop sign missing and bring it to court. Hey...how are you supposed to stop when there is no sign?

Call the phone number that is on the ticket. The people there will tell you more than anyone on here can.

He isnt trying to get out of it ;) He is asking if $115 is reasonable. Just asking for advice on what to do. Seriously... if its that late at night, and you guys dont see anybody, do you come to a stop and sit there for 2 seconds just waiting to see if an unseen car runs out in front of you? Or do you just stop real quick that TECHNICALLY isnt a "complete" stop and keep going?

yeah im not trying to get out of it, but it would be nice :D But i dont think $115 and 3 points ( i dont even know how that works, can someone explain it) sounds right.

And the reason im not to upset about it is because he pulled me over on the way to pickup a keg for my friend (And no i dont drink and drive). So it could have been a lot worst if i got pulled over with a keg in the trunk.

And 20 year old suspension handled well with that extra weight to my surprise

Buck up, take traffic school and you won't get the points.

if the cops around where you live are busy they might not even show up to court which will force the case to be dropped against you. thats what happened when i was worngfully accused (for once :D ) of an illigal pass. be warrned though that this happens at an actual court date after your chance to do driving school has passed

hah, the other night on my way to work there was a cop hiding behind some bushes by the stop sign down the street. I always come to a complete stop anyway, but he kinda startled me when I noticed him. I have to wonder though, what was he doing there at 12am out in Bumfuck USA? I was probably the only car that passed through there the whole hour!
