Look for used springs in the "For sale" forum.

Now youre coming along. In which case you would be paying nothing for cut springs. So 2 + 2.

You can cut the front springs as much as you want (within reason), the rears aren't going to work because of the way they "pinch" the nubs on the body/ trailing arms. I think what Janderson is trying to say is there are no adverse side effects if you are cutting them within reason. Obviously if you cut 5 coils out it isn't going to work very well. Hell, my 2.25 x 5" springs on TCK adjusters fall out when I put the car up on a lift. Is that safe? Never had a problem in the 5 years I've had the rears installed. Just have some patience and get springs/ budget coil-over set-up.

Like I said, if you decide you want low for low's sake, low and comfort, or performance, we can suggest springs for you and what shocks you'll be needing to accomodate them.

Cutting a coil will just make the spring stiffer, go look it up in a physics book. Only problem is you can't cut a coil off the back and will have it too stiff up front -relative- to the rear. Welding or heating the metal and changing it's properties is a different story, but the only effect the cutting has is increasing the spring rate. The spring becomes less 'springy' because there is less of it to compress.

Saying its unsafe because it *seems like a bad idea* and you heard someone else say it doesn't make it true.

Cheapest drop would probably be remove all spring pads, use e90 front upper spring perches (I paid 23 for pair, search forum for e90 drop hats) and cut one coil up front. This would lower probably 1.5" up front and .5" in rear, or thereabouts.

I love the dead coil theory.

OP, i'm glad you decided to make multiple threads on this.

                thanks dirty30.

my friend has the same car he cut 2 off in the rear and 3 in the front and it might not be the smoothest ride but it still works and has a good stance and ive seen them cut befor so i dont understand why it wont work.

be ready to replace your shocks, they will fail if you half ass it.

the cheapest, lowest shocks can be found on ebay. search for e30 FK.

Fk has a 60/40 kit and they offered a 75/55 at one point as well. be sure to upgrade your shocks.

Cut springs suck more from overcutting, the resulting underdampening blown shocks, and riding on bumps than the cut spring itself (within reason). Any of you guys ever looked at an original Jstock kit? Yup, cut.

My advice to the OP would be to just wait, or cut conservatively. It will ride like ass if you cut. And i have to disagree with people saying avoiding coils. If you really want to be dumped, lowering springs are just going to be frustrating.
