    I run 15w50 Mobil 1 in my '85 eta and S52 car. My eS gets 10w60 because it's a 'sport' eta ;)

10w-40 Mobil1 High Mileage. Took some "before" pics of the valve train to see if it cleans up the alley at all. Going to extend drain intervals to about 5000 to 6000 miles.

mobil 1 10/30 synthetic high mileage. 225k miles. doesn't burn or leak a drop of oil. they don't carry the 10/40 in a jug here. should i switch to 10/40 anyways?? i autox also. dk if that makes a difference?

            castrol only.

i normally run 10x40 or 20x50, depending on the season. Castrol GTX-highMileage+castrol syntec FTW.

I used the syntec in the m20 from like january, runs real good, coming up on my 5k oil change. gonna see how clean the head is too when i do it.

quick question, because im having a brain fart right now, BUT:

cold temp=lower weight oil to help with viscosity right? (10x40)
hot hot hot summar=higher weight oil? (20x50)

or do i have it backwards...

mobil 1 full syntheic 5w30 with mobil1 filter. changed every 6,000 miles. (i drive mostly highway miles) and even by time it's less than 10% city driving.

Stock M20's burning oil is NOT a cause for a full rebuild, or haven't you guys been reading your Bentley?

If it's extremely excessive, your valve guides could be worn, so at most a head refresh would be in order.

And again, Bentley, 10w30 is way too thin.

(I used castrol high mileage 20w50 until my rebuild, now I use Red Line 20w50 the 6 hottest months of the year and 10w40 the coldest 6).

i used 5w30 in my old eta and i was burning it like crazy! these cars need thick oil.....20W50 or GTFO.

i am wondering what oil weight i should be using this winter when it dips to -40 tho :S

Rotella T 15w40. :) Diesel oil. The extra detergents keep my engine clean as can be.

Disclaimer: Do not use this oil unless the engine is new.

really I have never ever heard of any negative consequences to running a API CJ-4 rated engine oil in gasser. Hell the extra zinc content and extra resistance to viscosity loss with extended change intervals and extreme temp operation also has a high resistance to oil sheer as well its a good thing. This is why I cj-4 oils in almost everything all though I dont run Rotella I run Delvac from Mobil one

I am running Rotella T 15w40 in the M10. 89 thousand miles and it seems to be doing fine so far. I agree with mrsleeve, what am I missing because that's why I'm using it in the first place.
