how does the cable just get miscalibrated and mess up like that?

could messing with the throttle body cause this problem? My car had this rpm issue onyl after I had reinstalled my head, manifold etc

I emailed Mark a couple years ago and Mark D told me the chips were different for the auto's and manuals. Although I've run the regular chip and the "automatic" chip and felt no difference. The "auto" chip he sent me was for an e34 525i.

It's different because you can't choose when you're shifting, it's probably tuned to make all the power under 6000 (where it shifts) instead of some above.

you could look for a 4hp22 shift kit. They're common on rover's apparently.
