I have a ball joint for one and a door gasket...considering a CQ saved me from a f250 smashing into my drivers door I'd say these cars are safe. PIA to work on VC gasket I did on mine, had to take intake off (stupid reversed torx bolts). Didn't really get into the maintenance cause I was afraid. the dual radiator setup is junk they rust out. Rear locking diff is cool if it ever works (vaccum activated). galvanized steel was awesome cause they never hardly rust. Slow cars but comfortable. 5 cylinders sound like crap get used to it. chicks dig them, your going to pull teeth getting parts.
Thats what I think of them from ownership.

I've always wanted one... but there were only 1730 imported into the US. And they are overweight, underpowered by that interesting but supposedly fun 20V 5cylinder... understeer, etc. Still, looks were classic and quattro for all season control. The sedans were easier to find and the later had less spiritual V6s. The coolest I've seen is an audi V8 shoehorned into a 90/91 coupe.

Still, an ix probably makes more sense, has a better community support, and although some parts are unique a lot carries over. And it is 36/64 power distribution.

It would be cool to have a boosted 20v 5 cyl 80 (or whatever the common sedan is)

I always wanted one of these so, so badly, about 10 years ago when I had my first Audi. Glad I got over that crush.

IMO it is, I find the older flapper door a serious issue. I think it's a PIA you don't.

The 4.2L V8 works in the early UrQ's as well.

intersting. I have never run into a problem, but if you think it's a pain, then you have had problems with it.

agreed. all 3 mk1 gti's i've owned were good, reliable runners, the second one was a tt built 2.0 9a block with tt headers, tt cat back, tt build head, schrick 292 cam, and even with a cam that should probably have idled like ass, after some fiddling it ran like a champ! iirc, most audis are built with a forged bottom end, so that portion is pretty bomber.

CQ's are cool and can be made very fast 300-400hp easy, they can also be made to handle but that takes some work.

                          2800-2900, dude.

                            3171 according to this: http://www.audiworld.com/model/coupe...90-coupe.shtml

If they were only 2800lbs with some weight reduction they would easily be around 2500-2600 and nobody would bitch about how portly they are.

I bought a '93 90 quattro for a winter beater and I like it alot. I would love to have a CQ. Mine doesn't have much in common with CQ seeing as I have a later model 90 with the V6 and a4 rear suspension design.

It was the best winter car I have had yet.

no it isn't. it is just different. much simpler and better for making power. CISe Motronic was CIS with chip tunability. CIS is expensive for parts though because of the high pressures.
