I was searching around on people's thoughts on gas and did not find anything. I especially want to see what people think about the Arco gas against the Top Tier ones. I always use Chevron myself, but then heard about possibly having "Additive Buildup" if used too much. Any input?

I've had two different BMW mechanics tell me to avoid ARCO gas. They explained that it'll make your car go just like any other fuel, but it lacks more effective additives and detergents that the more 'top tier' brands have. Personally, I put 76 fuel in my car because A) it's a good product & B) there's a 76 station within a mile from home....very convenient.
In my region, the vast majority of fuel is sent via pipeline from Tosco in the east bay area. This fuel arrives at distribution points where the franchises pick up this 'base' product, add their detergents/additives, then haul it to the stations to be purchased by consumers. So essentially all the gas is coming from the same source, its what each respective brand adds that sets them apart.

Not extremely picky but I like Exxon. I never go to Arco though that gas sucks, doesn't make the car run too differently but it just seems to not last as long. I liked Shell but the new nitrogen or whatever they put in it makes the car run a needle's width hotter. But lately I've been going to Costco. It is cheap, the station is clean and bum free and every morning they get tankers refilling it daily. So atleast I know it is fresh gas.sigpic

I use whatever is around when I need it. I did notice a difference in the Nova though when running Arco versus running Shell. Yeah it's a carbureted engine, but it still ran noticeably better on Shell.
Really though, I always average the roughly the same mpg regardless of what brand I buy, so I don't really care anymore.
