holy balls you guys are bit miss informed.
1st off it dose not matter where you buy your fuel you are more than likely getting the same shit as it all comes from the same tank farm/distribution hub. That means your Conoco is the same shit as the exxon across the street and the shell across town. If say that is a Conoco farm and thats who owns the product line that supplies it, your getting conoco no matter the sign on the station.
There is exceptions to this if say exxon has their own facility nearby, then their branded stations will have their own brand fuel. The same is true with shell and the rest. If you live in or near larger cities then there is a better chance you are getting the brand you are buying but if you live in rural or small to medium sized cities you just what ever is closest and cheapest (if the named station dose not have a local distribution hub) .
If you are worried about gas quality buy form a High volume station that sells tons of fuel every day. Dont fill when the truck is there as what ever sediment is in the tanks is being stirred up. Also see when the last time the station had their tanks redone, and cleaned out. for the most part gas is fairly standard across the brands for you given locations (additive packages). Diesel fuel is a whole nother can of worms though ughhh.
DO NOT RUN HIGH ETHANOL FUELS THROUGH THE M20 its not ratted for it you will eat seals and hoses in the fuel system. And you will not get the same <------read get worse MILEAGE on e85. e85 has less BTU per gallon (aka has less stored energy per gallon) than normal less than 10% ethanol 87 octane. To the tune of e85 has about 80% the BTU of standard 87 octane.
I see mijers mentioned last I knew they like to get their fuel form Citgo when ever possible
and why are you guys running 90+ octanes through the M20 (unless you have a chip that needs it)???? Its low compression mass production engine that is conservatively tuned and designed to run for 300k miles. Unless you have done some thing to advance the timing(chip) and modded the piss outta it there is no need for anything but the occasional tank full of the high test when you wan tot run it hard and burn out some of the carbon.Last edited by mrsleeve; 05-18-2010, 01:40 AM.Originally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

the base stock is the same, generally - but not always. it depends on who your local refineries are, or if gas is imported. Here we have Conoco, BP, Shell, and Tesoro. The additives packages are definitely NOT the same. There isn't a big tank that all the trucks pull up to for distributing to gas stations - they're seperated by additives packages.
locally, Shell refines Shell and Chevron (I think, it might be BP), Conoco does 76 and a lot of the grocery stores, BP does Arco (and probably other cheaper ones, maybe Chevron), not sure what Tesoro sells but they're similar to Conoco. A lot of our fuel is exported too. In other places different refineries might make the base stock, but the additives on the top-tier brands are their own and the mixed fuel comes from a seperate tank. You're not going to get cheap quality Arco gas at a Shell station, even if BP refined the base stock.
Arco is well known for shitty gas. Even the guys who work for BP make fun of it. Our company uses nothing but Arco in the company cars. You don't want to know how bad they run. You have to floor them just to go the speed limit on the freeway. I'm not exaggerating either.
Conoco isn't a lot better, they actually had to pay a bunch of money a while back because a bad batch of gas destroyed a bunch of people's engines. The upkeep and maintenance at the refinery your gas comes from makes a difference, and generally the top-tier brands (Shell, Chevron, etc) have much better managed and maintained refineries.

i run 91 octane from 76 most of the time, Chevron and Mobile when money's not so tight. When I had my chipped ETA and a steady income i ran nothing but Chevron 91, unless i had absolutely no other choice

Nando Buddy I work in the industry, I will not dispute any of what you have said, when you live in a area serviced by more than 1 refinery or Distribution hub. Addtive packages in places can vary by law, by zip code. Not just by the branding. But many areas are not serviced by more than one Hub or refinery.
I have spent plenty of time working in Refineries and tank farms there can be separate tanks by branding, but normally its not, normally its broken up by product not brand, Ie 87, 90+, #1, #2 Diesel, Av gas, Jet, etc... have their own tanks, not exxon has their own of each, then Shell has each, then Conoco has each. Unless like I said you live in a area that has a very large population that is serviced by more than one oil company with refining/distribution facilities.
Never had to deal ARCO so I cant speak form experience, but really is the fuel quality that bad or is it where the shit sits in stations or farms tanks???? is it full of water or what.
Oh I tend to buy fuel's from Companies I own stock inLast edited by mrsleeve; 05-18-2010, 01:56 PM.Originally posted by FusionIf a car is the epitome of freedom, than an electric car is house arrest with your wife titty fucking your next door neighbor.

I get my fuel from Wawa. Mainly b/c i can also get delicious fresh sandwiches, the best drinks around, and really anything else I'll need to live. Also the gas is ALWAYS the cheapest. I also have a credit card from there, which gives me reward points and money back to spend at Wawa.
ya, you Westerners dont even KNOW! Wawa is the shit. any Northeasterner will agree. and if they dont, they should be in a mental hospital.
