How much do you think its worth?

1991 318i no sunroof with 165k miles. It has a cloth interior, the clear is damaged on the roof and the engine needs to be rebuilt. No pics yet.

Theres one for sale locally and I'm wondering how much to offer him.

Also if I wanted to get it repainted how much does a good paint job cost. I will strip all the trim first though. I'm near San Francisco if that matters for pricing.

    Thanks.

Edit: I'm going to do an electric conversion and will not need any of the ICE components.

    Ok first post and welcome!

Lot to learn and search will be your friend.

As for your question the 318i will have an m42 and at 165 I would think that the motor should be strong enough to fix up with out a complete rebuild, I am at 250 on my 91 with minor repairs, look at my link in my sig about the m42 for info...

So I think you need to look in to the car a little closer to see what the actual problems are with it instead of just the paint!

Look at the rear bushing on the front control arms and see if the bushings are cracked and aged if so the whole suspension may be in need of maintinace or even the whole car...

Its all about how maintained a car is and has been to tell you a price but for yours id say 800 to start negotiation!

    Good luck

Okay thanks. Are their any specific problems that I should be looking for? I've been doing a lot of searching and it seems like the odometer is a common problem. I'm planning on doing an electric conversion with it so I'm not too worried about the condition of the engine, but I would like to make sure that the rest of the drive train is working.

And yes I am trying to get more details, but I really don't know what sort of questions I should be asking and he hasn't gotten the pictures to me yet.

          $600

Generally that's considered a parts car. But if you're willing to do some work, and open up your wallet???

I'd move on personally...Some guys get a boner for the "slick tops" (e30's w/o a sunroof) - think they are crazy. I LOVE my sunroof.

w3rd. there's probably 2-3 people here who are good enough drivers that a non-sunroof would be a noticeable improvement.

Well I'm going to try and make it as light as possible so I prefer it without the sunroof.

Also is their a link or sticky that says what the differences are between the different years? I know that the body style changed in 88 or 89 and I prefer the newer ones, but what about other features?
