Those types of mods are fine. hey, if you like the 88 and its been for sale for a while, talk the seller down, buy it and be happy.

you could run an M20 without oil and the timing belt would break before the lack of oil would kill it, lol

I got my 325ix with 226k... Right after I bought it we did the timing belt, water pump, etc. Now i'm at 231k and still pulls harder than most of my friends m20s!

i would say as long as it is maintained and things like gaskets and seals on the motor are regularly checked and replaced if needed, it can last forever!

get the stock one. Modding is half the fun.

208k still going strong, all original. Meticulously maintained though.

I have a daily driver 325i with 225k, it doesnt feel as stong as my 160k track car but it is in great shape. I have done oil analysis on this car and the reports are clean, no wear (or any other mechanical/oil issues) after 5k oil changes.

22 years and 330k miles before mine was stolen. I drove it 400 miles with a broken timing belt tensioner when i was in new hampshire. threw a new one on and drove another 600 miles (or more) all the way back to DC without any issues or loss of compression. These M20s are built. I would totally go with the 89 over that 88 any day of the week.
