i test drove a 2010 mx5 yesterday. damn that thing is fun. so tiny. so lightweight. 2600lbs. very peppy, even for 150hp. i cant imagine what the original 2200lb NA miatas feel like.
My dad has an 07, that has 170 hp 2.0 liter so I'm guessing the 10 has at least 170hp.

But you're right, they are a blast. I just prefer the airy inside feel of older box cars like the e30. Driving the mx-5 with the top up is definitely not as fun.

Yes I know BMW makes MINI and that it's a bit more premium than a typical economy car, however people expect more from a new BMW. I don't think that's a fair comparison.

But you have a good point, the mini seems to be what a lot of people here are after, just FWD.

The 1'er will be faster, duh. It'll also be numb and it will overheat.

...it might be slower in limp mode, though.

Really, though, I would not own a car with the N54. That engine has been a nightmare reliability wise, and BMW completely ruined it with recent software updates that added massive turbo lag.

If you have driven any BMW since the E30, you already know the answer to this question. Especially if you have driven E36's and E46's-- BMW builds their cars consistently more and more numb with the average consumer in mind. You can easily see from driving these how the progression has gone. Actually, if you drive a 2002 and then drive an E30 you could say the same thing about the E30..

screw the turbo 4... I want the M3 v8 in that thing. Would trade 135 in for it. But if it still has an n54 why the hell would I want to upgrade????

A few things touched on in this thread.

                    1. I wish minis were RWD. That is the only thing holding me back.
                    2. The new 1 series-M seems to be a weak M car built for someone who looks like this:

                    3. I owned an E36 before my E30. There is a reason I went backwards. BMW continues to eliminate the driver aspect and feel from their cars.
