wow, this is getting too complicated. i cant believe you guys care enough to actually find the mathematical formula to figure out if it's calvins fault or not.

I already KNEW the mathematical formula!!

And the reason I am doing it is so I can say that I actually USED something I learned from my HS physics class!

Mr. Petry would be SO very proud.

      (and it's clavin, thank you)

Who cares whos fault it may or may not have been.

Chris still has a hefty "careless driving" ticket to fight in court. This could definately help him plead his case.

So Dan. Either start crunching numbers to make it work, or stop posting in this thread.

It would be a lot more complicated than just mu*gravity acting on the car....slope of the road would affect gravity, the cars weight is divided over 4 tires which don't necessarily have equal traction nor do they support equal portions of the gravity etc.

Not trying to be flippant, but the judge is going to wonder why a guy in a caravan of 15+ kid import drivers cooked it coming into a stop sign with traffic and nailed the guy in front of him hard.

Its not that he hit hard Charlie. Keep in mind the only thing that made contact was plastic and flimsy sheet metal.

There would have been almost no damage if they had hit bumper to bumper.

The top of Chris's bumper cover, and a bit of the core got caught on the underside of the Blazers trailer hitch. Everything from there up impacted on the bumper.

Everyone else fled. I don't think the courts will know he was caravaning.

Five or six cars stayed behind. Colby was right behind my car (30 feet) and the other guys parked a few hundred feet away. Some of the others met up with us later. I would say POPPED, not NAILED. and it was 14 cars, not 15+. I was not cookin' it at all. I was actually under the speed limit. The stop sign was a couple hundred feet away. Last I checked, most of us are over 20 years old and at least one of us is married. Kids? Hmm. I would hope a Judge would be a little more impartial than that. At least the courthouse clerk seems to believe so.

You were 100+ feet away from the sign, locked the wheels up for 65 feet, and hit a stopped, or moving vehicle? Was there a long line of cars at the sign?

                              I wondered that too.

Also, how much of a fine are you looking at really? You also might want to consider whether CA will even hit you with points for an out-of-state ticket. KY won't unless it is DUI or Reckless Driving (which here is considered different than careless driving). I got tagged for speeding in Georgia last year and could have contested it, but I would have had to appear in person and the fine was only $125. I paid it and KY does not count it against me, therefore it had no effect on my insurance.

You might also want to call the prosecutor's office and see if they will plead it down. If you have a mechanic who will testify that your brakes malfunctioned, they might amend it down to an improper equipment charge or something of lesser $$ and consequence.

when I passed the blazer I suddenly realized the car in front me of was coming ot a stop suddenly, come to find out there was a random stop sign up ahead. I didn't know there was a stop sign up ahead until I passed the blazer, and to my knowledge I'm sure clay didn't know there was one either, a lot of us weren't from around there. maybe someone should post a story of what happened so there wont be so much confusion.
