Pop out rear quarter windows on 2dr cars

Were there cars available with pop out rear windows like the 2002s had? The rear quarter window looks like it would be a good canidate to be a pop out, but all the ones Ive looked at dont pop out. Was there ever an option to do this, or is there an aftermarket kit like the VW rabbits had? Thanks.

my '88 m3 has rear pop outs. e30 m3's had pop-outs until late '89 or something.

My 86 325es has pop-outs, i'm pretty sure that it was very common.

It must have been a factory option or something then. I just must be looking in all the wrong places for E30s.....

Pop outs were replaced when the airbags became standard, to offset manufacturing costs, IIRC.

i have two cars.

i have two cars, one with pop out windows, and one without. my question is, can i fit the pop outs onto my 90 325is? any write ups anywhere? thanks.

I would assume if you got the seal for the popouts and got some windows and hardware from another car you could get them to fit as the window is the same shape. You probably need to drill the holes for the fastners, but I wouldnt be surprised if they are already there. I dont even own an E30 yet so Im just guessing, but it seems logical enough.

i've never actually used the pop-outs. seems like a pain in the ass to climb back there to open and then close them. but i like having the option of opening them

it wouldn't surprise me if all shells had pre-drilled holes for the pop-out hardware. if they did get rid of pop-outs to save cost, it would make sense to me for them to just drop the hardware and mount a fixed window and NOT change the actual shell. if you pull off the c-pillar trim you should see the mounting area for the latch system.
