Did you also look http://shark.armchair.mb.ca/~dave/BMW/e30/e30_91.pdf here? That document is the diff for 318s, basically.

a little but its all confusing, why isnt there just a definitive pinout chart like how hard could that be?

Because there are various of changes between years/models? How hard can it be, spend 30 minutes with the ETM and you'll know for sure.

What he said. The pinout is a bitch, yes, because you have to go all over the 318 ETM which I linked to AND the 89 325 ETM to make sure you get all the pins. I have the pinout for a late model 6 cyl but I am purposefully not posting it to avoid potential disasters, as several sources confirm that the 318iS is different.

Yeah, you might as well go through the ETM for you car. If you can get a hold of a searchable PDF, just hit CTRL+F and type in C101, then write down every hit you get, and see what you come up with.

If you don't have a searchable PDF though, it still isn't that hard.

Yeah, The ETM will help very much. The schematics really work wonders. Just go through EACH page and look for a C101 connection!

I believe i found my problem, between the two years the 91 ignition is controlled by different relays and my car still wont start. any insight?

bump - anyone have a *complete* '91 318is ETM? the one floating around (~5.9mb) is missing about 2/3rds of the sections. Which is funny when you guys tell somebody to search the ETM. ;)

                          I know there's a 16mb version but I haven't found it yet..

Nando, as far as I know the 91 318iS etm that is 'small' is the diff from the 89 325 one. So you get to have two PDFs open.. ask me how I know :).
