there is no "magic" bolt on that will give you a huge power increase short of a turbo/Superchargerband neither or them are really a "bolt-on".

cone filter with a heat sheild or a panel filter in the stock air box will help a little. cat back and headers will help a little, chip will help a little, a WAR chip and MAF conversion will help a little bit more. all the while the $ keeps adding up. i would suggest starting with these. then switching to getting your suspension/brakes/drivetrain sorted out.

while E30s are quick for their time, they are not fast and don't really compair to most modern cars, but that is not why we drive them. they are a cheap capable car that you can work on yourself and enjoy driving.

once you get the rest of the car sorted out and get some driving skill, then i would look into doing a swap, maybe a 2.7i with boost.

thanx der affe. all of wht u just said, i already had on my mind, i just wanted to have sum1 else say it. all of tht was already in my plans for this car.

i have had project cars b4 this 1, and both of them were underdog types. so it is not sumthing new to me to try and make some thing out of nothing!

          Sounds like whatt18yahoo?

But OP, I have to agree with danny on the 5 speed swap, I just finished one on my coupe, and compared to my automatic vert its a pretty notiable difference.

I'm not entirely sure what that even means, so I'm just going to assume it was an insult.

If you want intelligent responses, present your posts in an intelligent manner. We aren't text messaging our high school girlfriends here.

                    "sum1" should be "someone"
                    "u" should be "you"
                    "wht" should be "what"
                    "tht" should be "that"
                    "b4" should be "before"

                    etc.

Now, a 5 speed swap would certainly wake the car up. This is a relatively large undertaking for someone new to these cars, and if you don't have the tools/expereince, this project can wait until you do.

As far as bolt ons, you aren't really going to see a whole lot in terms of a power gain. You might feel a chip and intake(assuming you have proper heat shielding and aren't sucking hot air in from your engine bay), and it may be good for a couple hp. Exhaust is nice, but you are mostly changing the sound as the gains will be modest at best. A cam is an option which can produce some reasonable gains, but you've stepped outside the realm of "bolt on".

The reality is that E30s aren't straight line cars by design. They are momentum cars through and through. My feeling is that you will notice the biggest difference in driving characteristics by doing suspension. Even just shocks, springs, and bushings will make a huge difference. You can get a bit more wild and go for adjustable camber plates, coilovers, etc but I speculate that that may be outside your range of expertise for the time being. A good set of tires will make a difference as well.

Know that there is a right way to do this, and a wrong way. Pepboys cold air intakes and cut springs are the wrong way. Don't go down that path. Do it right the first time and you'll be happy you did.
