I'm not calling this kid a ricer. Granted it's no race car, but I dont see the 18" TSWs and the APC wing..... I have no interior either, does that make me a ricer? And plus, what he did could've been considered stupid just because he got caught.... anyone here that hasnt done 100+ on their cars on the highway (and many on stock suspension cars) is full of shit.

This whole video just made be pissed at the media, because as someone said it..... it's not the kid that's speeding, is your life that is endangered because that kid was speeding. So much drama over this.

when you're going 140+, i really doub't it would be wise to look for police and not keep your eyes on the road.

If you have a radar detector, giving you a few seconds warning, best you'll do with most cars is get it under 100, and i really don't think slammin the brake pedal at 140+ is the best idea either.

These people do give modders a terrible name. This is a huge problem in society today. Teenagers/young adults/adults want a place to go fast, but because of lawsuits and public fear brought on by bits like this, its very hard to build new places for people to go legally fast. I've drive that fast on public roads, so have many of us, but i don't any longer because it's not worth it. I'm going to wait until i can get to PIR, SIR, Pac Raceways, ect. Between the porsche, alfa, and bmw clubs at PIR, i could track every weekend of the summer starting baout 2 weeks ago. Combine that with thefriday night drags at the track (if that's your thing)... there are plenty of ways to get your fix. Driving fast on the street doesn't mean your a bad ass, it means you're a throttle jockey, and you'll kill someone. The funny thing about this is the kid is like "I want to go race on PIR"... oh great, now i have to worry aboout some dumb shit who thinks he's fuckin Schumacher in a FWD DOHC V-tech civic trying to pass in the festival turns and running people off the track... this kid and rice rocket jockeys like him, need to be slapped with a big limp dick - they are fucking it up for the rest of us.

I guess the TV and such has gotten to you.

Huge problem today? It's always been a 'problem' with inexperienced kids driving cars that they cannot control.
Society just can't appear perfect, if so, what the fuck will the new station make money off of?
I pity those who take hear-says so seriously.

Driving fast is not a new phenomena. Only difference is now and 10, 20 years ago --> more media attention.
One thing though, is of course, there are wider variety of cars and, one 'could' argue that there are 'faster' cars today.

But of course, you guys all know about the muscle car era.

Then again, today, there are stricter laws, more safety regulations, and more attention on speeding than ever before!

Don't blame it on the dumb kid. Tell the TV stations and cops to pay more attention to poverty or something, but nooooo... what's 'hot' now is teenagers+street racing+alcohol.

The kid claims that he was in control - well if the reporter asked him whether if he knew the danger or something to that extent, what should he have said? - No, I have zero control of the car, I'm very lucky that my car did not fall apart, disintegrate and catch air and flip over?

They probably manipulated to hell what the kid said.

You mis-understood my post. Re-read after clarification, and spend the rant on someone else. The problem is society not giving people a place to do it legally, NOT people driving that fast. However, in this case, i really wouldn't feel safe ridin with this kid at 140+ He continues to make stupid decisions, and doesn't represent himself or the community worth a shit.

I'm not about to be so stupid as to think driving fast is a "new phenomena". Where in my post is that implied? It is a problem in society today because of the attitude TODAYS society takes twoards it. College drinking isn't a new thing, nor is teenage sexual activity, or drug use... it's just the way TODAYS society views it. Is society wrong in the way they look at it? yes. But simply because of a handful of people think that is the case doesn't overturn the crying mothers, and scared elderly people who have the time and energy to scream bloody about these "damned street racers". That is the major problem in society today.

the media likely manipulated it, and frankly i don't give a shit what the media said about it. MY opinion, simply based on some kid in a honda going 140+ with what looks to be no downforce aids, stock brakes, and more than one person in the car, on the 205 freeway in portland which is not a really straight strectch of highway, is just fucking stupid. Control is a relative term. I know there are roads that are completely desolate here where i could do that with no traffic, and almost certainly no police. There are also roads like that up near the portland area. He's an idiot. But he's young, we all were... and he learned the hard way.

Dunno, I've raced a friend with an '89 hatch with a bolt-on B16, we went over 130mph before we shut it down. His car could see 142 easily with the way he was accelerating (pulling HARD from me).

I did a steady 120 all the way to Lafayette once in my Integra. Felt great (except for wind blowing the light car).....civic should be similar hopefully. Of course, I always drive with the windows down even in my e30 to keep cross winds from blowing me around.

Mhmm, my bro-on-law used to have a '93 Si coupe, felt reasonable at 120. My sisters '95 Teg felt quite good, surprisingly. Got hers up to around 125 a few times.

I feel much more scared in any American car of the same vintage. Once had a '93 Grand Am GT that terrified me at ~80.

He should've taken a right instead of sitting there stopped :P

I've never been in an actual civic hatch, although my friends teg on cut springs did fine at 140+

Once we get this damn CRX running, I'll let you guys know how 140/150/whatevers feels like in it :P

Yes, no interior for no good reason is pretty fucking rice. I'll go out on a limb here. The e30 interior is so damn easy to remove that there is no reason not to have one while driving around on the street.. Carpet is about the only thing thats a pain in the ass to remove, but you can still put lightweight carpet in place of the heavy ass stuff thats stock.
100+ and 140 is two different ball parks. Hell, the difference between 120 and 130 is simply amazing. Once you get going that fast, every 5 mph feels like you are doubling your speed.

Oh and 808, I honestly hope you get hurt in that CRX.

last bit wasn't directed against you. I apologize if you were offended. Perhaps I misunderstood exactly what you meant by "huge problem", i thought you implied that the problem was the increasing number of teenager shitheads giving all of us a bad name.

At least we both agree that the kid is a dumbass (though I don't think that he stands out all that much in the middle of the dumbasses in the world), and that the media is full of shitheads.
