    Massive vibration and clunking.

    So on the way to work this morning, my car was fine. On the way home it started clunking and vibrating. It gets worse at speed, but the weird thing is that under acceleration it is mostly fine, constant speed it is noticeable but not too bad, but with no throttle it is really bad to the point of being scary, and the under braking not so bad. It is defiantly drivetrain related, as you can hear distinct clunks until you get going faster.

    So my guess is driveshaft failure, but I haven't been under the car yet.

    Any other ideas?

    So where can I get a good remanufactured driveshaft? Pelican has them for $800, Bimmerworld $450 but you have to give them your core. looks like they rebuild it with replaceable u-joints though which is a plus. There and this other site I found http://www.wholesaleimportparts.com/...shaft_1989.php But it looks a little questionable.

    Any other suggestions? I know there was a guy on here that was saying he could rebuild them for like $300 bucks, but I couldn't find the thread.

    Could be the guibo..
    Look under the car and see if it's shredded and hanging down..

      Sounds exactly like when my guibo broke. I still havent fixed it but it got a little better over time for some reason haha. But if you can get your car up on a lift or get under it and look between the driveshaft and the tranny its that rubber giant washer type thing. I doubt its just your drive shaft. Could also be your center support bearing,

        It is either: the Center Support Bearing (CSB) or the guibo.

        It is not: the diff mount bushing, the trans/engine mounts, or your driveshaft (unless you continue driving it like this)

          I just put one in from HERE.

            There has been a slight clunk (a single clunk on acceleration and deceleration) for as long as I have owned the car (1year), so I replaced the gubio as well as the CSB about 5 months ago. It didn't fix the problem, so I am thinking it was the driveshaft all along and it is just now becoming a serious problem.

              If the csb or guibo are bad and keep going bad the d-shaft is shot.
              The off load clunking could be due to the large retainer nut on the spline being loose or off.

                my guibo and csb kept going out, same symptoms, mainly going uphill. I had to replace my driveshaft to remedy it.

                  Well I just figured out what it was, do you think you can guess? It has nothing to do with the driveshaft and I already fixed it.;)

                  It does have to do with me being a total tard though.:stupid:
