    Shake after 50mph

My steering wheel shakes after about 50mph, this just started after my rack and motor swap. I believe the cause is loose tie rods. I was wondering can the shake be coming from the rack? It has a 96 m3 rack with unknown miles.

Ill will be digging into it this afternoon and hopefully its just something loose not a destroyed rack.

    Thanks

well if it didn't shape before then that pretty much rules out a lot of factor like bent rims and out of balance tires or bad wheel bearing( i've had them all ugh) so the first places i would check would be tire rods and see if there is any play in the rack be jerking the tire back and forth and have someone watching for moving and non movie parts
    hope this helps

Well turned out my motor mount was loose, Thats all tight and will never be loose again. Haven't driven it yet due to finding a coolant leak :(.. I was looking at the flex disc in the steering linkage it sort of wabbles. Could this be an issue? I saw a website where you can get a Poly one which i will be ordering shortly

Are you referring to the flex disc aka the guibo?

All my experience in 50mph - 65 steering shakes have been caused by:

            Bad tie rod
            Bad balljoint/CA
            No hubcentric rings
Bad alignment/no alignement after messing with suspension.

            Just thought I'd add that.

BAD IDEA. There needs to be some flex there. There was a thread on this sometime ago...try searching for it.

well is there supposed to be some free play in the rack at the top? My guibo seems to be fine but there is play between the linkage and the top of the rack. I have some hockey pucks that may be turned into a new guibo :) never hurts to try

Are you talking about the steering rack or the driveshaft? I'm gunna say the rack, I'm pretty sure you can make that bushing solid.

A "guibo" is slang for a driveshaft flex disc

                        Not slang proper terminology.

Point is that shouldn't be solid.

This is why people thought you were talking about the guibo...

then what is the rubber Guibo Thing in the steering linkage? I have heard it called a guibo most of the time. Still shake at 55.
