I have a friend that owned a GC 2.5 RS and now has a SVX and another friend that has a bugeye thats a never ending project. Subaru's are awesome cars that are fun to toss around. I would say that the 2.5 RS would be a good candidate. Also the GF chassis Outback would also be fun as long as you drop it slightly, but I have a thing for wagons. Great cars and would totally recommend them to anyone.

Danny, I thought they never released the Celica AllTrac in the states? Maybe I'm wrong.

seriously, though, the forester is pretty small and VERY fun to drive (turbo version). throw snow tires on = unstoppable. if you are looking for a winter dedicated vehicle, its best all around.

            another vote from me.

DANNY, you make me nostalgic for my DSM's. My buddy still has his GVR4, 13yrs later. All-Trac=too damn heavy, too many broken drivetrain parts.

I vote for Forester, or Legacy & WRX wagons....(edit-missed 'fun')

In good shape can be found for about 5 and leaves you 5k for MODs. And will haul ass, little heavy though.

I prefer the Dodge RT/TT variant though just a little cleaner looking to me

That mazda hatch is cool as shit. 323 or whatever it was.

My vote is still subaru. I wouldn't want to deal with hard-to-find parts or maintenance issues.

Not true. Considering before the e30 I hadn't really worked on a car and I bought this car to teach myself I think I've done pretty well.

I'd be comfortable fixing whatever [old cheap car here you mentioned], but I'd rather not have to.

Also, it has a lot to do with money. Nickel and dime repairs are just annoying.
