Checking in--after such kind words from many of you--especially about the BLUMAX. He is one of three that I have owned--being my first it was always my favorite--and now the subject of relentless care and upkeep mechanically and cosmetically as his caregiver--has been my traveling companion for almost 39 years.
Is he still in good condition--yes--just ask my fellow E-9 owners as we travel together--we recently completed the 36th anniversary of his first trip to Monterey back in 1974 and enjoyed taking part in being judged at the BMW Concours--and at Laguna Seca he enjoyed special display status. He's faster than when new while still wearing his original 2800 badge--is actually powered now by a nicely built 3.5L fitted with a special cam designed by Hans Herman--power going through a 5 spd OD and LSD and poised on touring suspension, HD Bilsteins and big bars--he likes his capped--not open lug Alpinas too. BTW--Hans is the Danish engine design genius who started his career with BMW in Munich and was instrumental in the design of several hi-performance cylinder heads for BMW in the early days and since has become an Internationally well known designer of wide ranging race, hi-performance, etc. internal combustion engines. I have been privileged to know Hans for many years. One last statement in this long ramble--I'm pleased to have shared my passion for the early BMW cars that have include 2002's, a Bavaria and an M-1 in which I managed 52,000 miles. After all these years with BLUMAX he has become like a comfortable pair of deck shoes--or two old guys at home with one another!!
