Ayy, check out that rear end

I feel that this is good enough to post up over here too. Just letting you all know that my project is slowly coming together:D

    The beginning

As you can see, things had started to get out of hand

Heres part of the old piece cut out, it came out as a whole, but for some reason, we chopped part of it off.

Fitting the new piece, we cut it so it could keep the original "U bar thingy" and be structurally sound

    He began welding it on

Heres the new piece in place, and the beginning of the body work

Fixing the horrible quarter, if you look in the old pictures, it has a panel welded on that didnt quite fit and it had a gouge missing from what looks like a terrible hit with a grinder. So it was sanded down to the bare metal and was made a smooth as possible. Then we put on a massive ammount of bondo, and tried to get it back to factory specs.

This photo shows some more of the body work, but we werent done yet. I dont think I have any finished photos at the moment

I commend your efforts but sometimes cars are beyond repair. They say with time and effort anything can be done but still...

Good on ya for trying though.

That just means he'll enjoy it all the more when it's finally done!

Awesome work saving that e30! Commendable for sure!

That was exagerated, we used very little in actuality, but I feel you.

Wow a lot more work than I would ever put in. I wonder what early archs with late tails would look like, you should have tried that.

nice job!! keep it coming. I have changed a few of those rear pieces and know exactly how crappy of a job it is. looks like you got the old one out really clean.

I was thinking about doing that, but then I wouldnt just be able to change out the rear panel, Id have to do the edges too, and I just didnt want to make the seam that visible. Ive seen it done on an e30 m3 though

You know the frustration then of trying to get everything to fit perfectly. And luckily the guy that helped me is an extraordinary welder. He managed to keep all the structural stuff in tact and took out only the panel. He did a fantastic job.
