My e30 had a rough day..

While I was innocently sitting in calc class this morning..
a classmate of mine in her redneck dodge ram with big ass off-road tires, ran over the front of my car.
Apparently her back tire caught my car as she was turning too sharply to get out of the parking spot next to me. :(

I discovered it when I was showing my car to an interested buyer..
I suppose it's temporarily off the market until I fix it. I settled for some cash and we left the police and insurance company out of.
Dunno if I made the right decision there or not.

How much would ya'll have assessed that damage at?
Very bent from bumper, very cracked trim, dented and cracked paint on the fender.. and more damage to the front spoiler.

I was trying to show this girl the inside of my car (the one that WAS interested in buying it)..
when I stuck the key in the door and attempted to turn it, it broke off in my hand. It was the only key to the car..
The first set of keys the locksmith made for me didn't work <sigh>.. it's been quite a day.

I'm selling the car anyway.. so doing the plastic bumper swap would be way too much work.

Him who? And no.. I didn't get that much. The girl said "well get an estimate at a shop, tell me what you need and I'll pay you."
I got someone to look at it (family member)... and came up with a random figure, $800 to be exact.
I didn't want to rip her off.. the car in it's fully functional and nice looking state is barely worth $1200.

Realisticly thats a $1200-1500 car. Private party. Insurace sees it as about a $1000 car if you are lucky.

If damages exceed 70% of the cars value, its totaled. $800 > 70% of $1000.

Settle it outside of insurance for sure.

Man, you are nice. Id call the popo just so she could get a ticket for not being capable of operating the vehicle she was attempting to pilot.

Good luck on that, you are gonna have to work to keep the repairs under $800. You might just be better seeing if you can get a grand for the car as-is. There are plenty of wierdos around here that would buy it and spend countless hours fixing it up themselves.

Worried about ripping her off?! I woulda been like - yea, $2,500 or I will call the cops - and they are gettin involved. Although it looks like private property - and in Idaho, cops can't give tickets for accidents on private property.

To pay someone to fix that, not easy. i'd be soo pissed - I like having original body panels and paint - if someone screws that up - I will screw them up. Life ain't fair, but I can damn well try to make it fair. :twisted:


I sure hope when she "ran" over your car, she only bent the bumper shocks, and the bumper itself - looks like it may have done some pretty nasty damage, quite possibly. There's a lot of stuff up there that needs repair for sure.
