So my insurance company sent me a letter.

    A copy of the letter:

    _______________

    Dear Mr. Sarette:

Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to provide your car insurance. Based on information developed from a current review, we are requesting that a restriction on the driving of Jordan Sarette be placed on your policy.

The reason for this action is:

01-19-05 Improper left turn, too wide, from wrong lane.
    09-01-03 Speeding
    02-21-03 Accident

The restriction would be in the form of an endorsement excluding coverage WHEN ANY MOTOR VEHICLE IS OPERATED BY Jordan Sarette.

The forms which must be completed to add this exclusion have been mailed to your agent. Please contact your agent as soon as possible to review and sign these forms.

    _____________________

WTF is this bulshit about? I mean seriously.

Lemme break these down for what its worth.

01-19-05 Improper left turn, too wide, from wrong lane.

This was NOT from the wrong lane, and no matter what I did I would have broken the law. Even doing exactly what the officer said I SHOULD have done would have broken the law 3 fucking times!

    09-01-03 Speeding

91 in a 65, only car on the road, 2am. Sure I was guilty, but I mean... thats like shooting fish in a barrel. Anyyyways. My first and only speeding ticker ever.

    02-21-03 Accident

I was never cited. The state police officer that showed up knew it was shitty road conditions, looked at where the skid started and knew without asking what happened. No police report was ever filed, nor was any paper work. Insurance company paid out on a totaled car from a no fault accident. No one there at the scene ever questioned me not being at fault.

So yeah, the above 3 listed things are the only citation/infraction/whatevers I have had in this state, and all I've ever had in my 6+ years of driving. What can I do to fight this BS?

    State Farm BTW.

How well do you know your agent? You can plead your case with him/her and see where that gets you. If that doesn't work out, then you can always go with a different company. If the last citation is not even on your record, then you should have no problem whatsoever getting coverage.

I called my agent and she said they received several hundred of these letters from corporate to then send out to locals.

Corporate received the information from a "consumer reports" company.

My agent said there isn't much she can do right now, she can't fight anything until monday. By Monday I will be in TX, and if I don't respond (read drop myself) by next week I will get dropped anyways. What bulshit.

I'm not very familiar with Oregon's Vehicle Code, so i can tell you what I know based on California's...

I wasn't able to see the drawing you made regarding the left-hand turn, so without seeing that, I'm going to refrain from commenting on it.

Speeding: In CA, if you plead guilty or no contest (or if you lose the court case for that matter), the DMV assesses 1 point to your record. Only way to get rid of that point is to ask to go to an 8 (or 16?) hour driver's course. Once the driver's course is completed, you can have the point removed from your record. Only down-side is that in CA you can only exercise this option once every 18 months.

The Accident: In CA, regardless of whether or not you were cited, regardless of fault, simply because you had and accident and CLAIMED it, the insurance company puts it into their database. DMV's all have access to these databases. You may not have received a point on your record because the police didn't file a report (good thing for you). However, because the car was totalled out, the insurance company keeps tabs on that and considers it in future rates and your "driving record." Maybe the DMV doesn't know about your accident, but the insurance company does (bad).

I would say, try to find out if you can go to the little bullshit driving school. Some counties here in CA allow you to take it online now (very cool). It'll reduce your point count by at least 1, and you may be able to keep your insurance at that point. Otherwise, look into another isurance company. I know 21st Century is pretty good (had them for a while). They'll even civer custom/additional non-factory parts up to $4K on their base policies.

          Sorry for the long post.

Driving school etc was never offered on my speeding ticket. Not was any method of differal etc.

I never made a claim on the Jetta. My mother did. It was her car. I mean fuck for the record I was not even on her insurance at the time.

I didn't get a single penny for that car, and my rates went up anyways. And a mark goes on my record with them even though they did not and never had insured me.

State Farm Blows. I was once hit by an old man who was insured by State Farm. He backed out of a parking space into the side of my car. He did about 2300 in damage and I had some very minor Dr. bills from it.

He was about 70, retired from a job as a traveling salesman. He had driven millions of miles without any prior accidents.

Guess what, he called me after I settled my claim to let me know that he got cancelled. He had been with their comany over 40 years.

Jordan, the problem you have might be that all three of these things were within a two year window. Your 6+ years don't mean shit to them.

Find an agent who handles several different companies and tell them you are shopping rates. They will help you.
