Hehe - coverage in Toronto is steep as it is in most larger cities - what's the population of Bellingham, Washington or Washington overall?Originally posted by nandoit's hilarious, because your government thinks that giving it to everyone is a good idea, but it just makes everything way more expensive..Originally posted by BahnE30quit your bitching
i pay triple in a year vs what you americans pay.
insurance is 3200 a year with no tickets or claims, i'm high risk because i'm under 25
I pay about $800 a year, full coverage.. :)
I've had two tickets, but one was dropped and the other is no longer on my record. no accidents in 10 years.. :)Comment

The government doesn't insure us....we have insurance companies like everyone...And I prefer our system for infractions. When you do something they give you points, when you get to 15 points, you lose your license for a while (don't know how long).E30 325i 1990 (Winter beater)

well sure. the population around this area is about 100,000. I think the state of washington is 4-6 million or so. but the economics still hold up...Originally posted by NickPHehe - coverage in Toronto is steep as it is in most larger cities - what's the population of Bellingham, Washington or Washington overall?Comment

Your state is about the size of Toronto and its suburbs - I hope you can draw the line between that and the effect it might have on auto insurance.Originally posted by nandowell sure. the population around this area is about 100,000. I also got a letter from State Farm today about my insurance, however, mine is equally stupid in a completely less screwing me manner. They gave a me $10 gift certificate for graduating from college (although Im really done next December). I thought to myself, wow all those years of paying insurance, and knowing they will drop me if I screw up in the slightest is definately not worth this. Just thought the post could use some sort of humor.-Nick

That's funny.
The Los Angeles Metro area has over 20 million people.
And the highest concentration of cars to people in the world.......The insurance rates here are sky high because people here drive long distances to go to work and the ease of having an accident is high.Comment

Also because companies like Geico pay outrageous sums to thieves. I was on the 405-101 transition road (notoriously bad junction) and as I accellerated to get over to the fast lane (which is the On lane for another freeway) traffic stopped. I rear ended the minivan in front of me totally smashing in her rear door (F150 4X4 on Monster mudders hitting above the bumper will do that) I pushed her into the Civic in front of her at a total speed 3 mph, no damage the the civic or the front of the van. The assholes in the civic claimed god knows what and even though I told Geico that they were walking around, were fine, had NO damage to tha car they paid them 26k!!!!! and I get the higher insurance bill!! Thanks Geico.Originally posted by bmw_e30Originally posted by nandowell sure. the population around this area is about 100,000. I had 3 tickets, one for "speed racing", all within 18 months on state farm, and never got dropped. It helps that my family has our house, and all cars insured with them, and that my parents have been with the same agent for over 25 years. I actually lost my drivers license, but still had insurance?:)... its a fucked up situation. If you havn't had a ticket or accident in a few years, considder having them do a driving record audit on you. If they realize that you don't have anything still standing on your record, then you're good. From what i understand, insurance companies do not check a persons driving record unless they are given a reason to do so, i.e. a wreck. They do check when you start the policy, but after that they would not have any reason to check it unless you givethem one. depending on your current record, this could be a good time to have them look at the clean(er) record you have established.PNW Crew

This is true to a point BUT even buying a new car or changing your address is reason enough for them to run a check (ask me how I know). Any change in status you report to your insurer will result in them running a check on your record. The shitty thing in my case was my credit being in the toilet due to an expensive and untimely divorce. They considered me a risk because someone in poor financial straights might torch their own shit and make a claim...Complete bullshit.Originally posted by uofom3I had 3 tickets, one for "speed racing", all within 18 months on state farm, and never got dropped. I'm with Geico now and actually got them to maintain a better rate by explaining my situation to the agent on the phone even though I had a recent speeding ticket (misreported by the prick cop, no less). Just take your lumps and go shopping Jordan. It'll be Hell or High Water before State Farm ever takes you back (I still can't get coverage from State Farm and I was dropped back in 1985!).Comment

I used to like Geico because they were the cheapest around after I had a no fault accident which NO payout was involved by either party in 2001.I had bare bones liabilty the others had nothing. My car got totaled, missed 1 week of school/work and I had medical bills out of pocket.Having learned my lesson when I joined them I got everything but theft coverage and was like $900/6 mo. Every 6 months my premium kept going down.Eventually to $450 even though I moved several times.
I was happy at that rate till I moved again this Christmas literally .8 mile away and my rate went by $90/6 Mo because my zipcode changed placing me in a more accident prone area. So I called and Rep/Supervisor would not budge.I canceled right then and signed with Progressive for 2 1/2 times higher coverages! at $440/6months. I couldnt believe they let me leave over $15 a month when I had a perfect record for the 4 years I was with them.Comment
