manual transmision is superior in reliability. driver involvement, and Fuel efficiency.

unless you are retarded, there is no reason to go Auto in an E30.

unless you find a mint car at a great price, and it has an auto, I can see buying one in that scenario.

I for one would then do an auto-manual swap.

this is my own opinion though.

or if you find a super cheap beater that runs, then auto is ok... for a while.

I have to agree with this. I got an e30 specifically because it's fun.

Manuals are more reliable. This is the most ridiculous question in the world.

manual trannies can 'go bad' if you don't know how to drive one.

A properly maintained and even aggressively driven auto is perfectly reliable. Often, they see 250,000 miles and still shift well. Heavy emphasis on the maintenance part.

I am swapping my wifes '89 325i to auto. She only has a 15 mile commute, but it is worse than most of LA traffic, easily the worst traffic in the PNW. She just turned 50, and her left leg is bothering her enough we have to swap to manual.

It will get a 4:10 LSD. Eventually, a M52, still auto.

She hates autos. She has only owned 1 auto, ever.

Someone who truly loves these cars WILL drive an auto if they must. Better an auto E30 than 99% of the other cars on the road, right?

So, the moral of this story? Automatic transmissions SUCK, but can be necessary.

IF you get an auto on purpose, this forum will shred you to bits.
