I guess it depends on who you are. UUC probably could give a rats if I make my own product similar to theirs. Its obviously not going to be the exact same thing. It's not hurting UUC at all, or any other company who makes them for that matter. They could care less. I have a friend who is a lawyer for K-Swiss shoes. He finds people who are imitating their shoes and selling them. K-Swiss wouldn't care if someone stitched up their own shoe that looks similar to theirs and this person is using it for just themselves. They aren't losing any business or money.

I don't know how stupid someone has to be to not understand that if you make something on your own that is similar to something else, it isn't stealing.

Is it stealing if I make a copy of anything in your house and don't sell it and use it for myself?

It isn't illegal to copy a CD, hence the fact computers have CD burners. If you were to take those CDs and sell them, then you would be in trouble and that would be considered stealing.

btw, on a more practical note, one thing you should consider is which version of the shift coupler (transmission side) you have. there are two versions, theres a narrower symmetrical version and the wider asymmetrical version. i believe the narrow one is the newer version and what is necessary for the DSSR.

You realize that it isn't just an easy piece to make right? It's made with machined blocks at either end, welded to a rod.

Isn't it just a solid piece of machined aluminum?
Either way my friend could do it easily.

He makes much more complicated things

Yes, I did. Thanks. Plus I can actually spell and punctuate correctly, too!

I'm quite well versed in the legal department. What you're doing isn't illegal. I never said it was. I did however, call you out on how ludicrous your statement regarding theft was, (do I need to quote it again?) Now I'm just having fun tapping on the glass. (It's OK if you don't get the euphemism).

Read the other posters' comments, I'm not the only one that thinks you're a tool for how you came in here to ask for what you want...

Can't it be machined out of steel then. No Different. Aluminum alloy would probably be plenty strong. I'm not a genius on that. I'll have him figure it out.

My statement on theft follows the definition of theft line by line.

                    Theft-Definition from Merriam-Webster
a : the act of stealing; specifically : the felonious taking and removing of personal property with intent to deprive the rightful owner of it
b : an unlawful taking (as by embezzlement or burglary) of property

                    1. a : the act of stealing;
-I am not stealing I am reproducing.
                    2. the felonious taking and removing of personal property with intent to deprive the rightful owner of it
                    -Do I need to explain?
Incase I do it is not a felonious act to reproduce a product for your own use.
I am not removing personal property to deprive the rightful owner of it.
                    3. b : an unlawful taking (as by embezzlement or burglary) of property
-As stated many times by you and I together it isn't an unlawful act and it definitely isn't embezzlement.

im not sure exactly what e30 325es was getting at, though what he said was an alternative way that you could go about making the parts (a rod welded to two clevis type joints).

my last comment was just a correction on the material. i wouldnt recommend making it out of alum. even though the forces that you exert on the shifter might not seem too high, youre working at the long end of the lever arm. the forces exerted on the DSSR at the bottom of the shifter are much higher as its a lot closer to the pivot. if you made it out of aluminum id be somewhat concerned with the hole ovaling after awhile.

Okay yeah I figured aluminum couldn't handle it. My friend will know what to make it out of. Most likely what UUC has made it out of. I don't want Deansbimmer to come arrest me though for using a material they used. He's the metal police or something.

You have taken and deprived the designer/manufacturer of the sale and your purchase of said intellectual property. You may be playing a loophole, but it's fucking theft.

It would only be theft if I was depriving them of a sale to others by reproducing their product and selling it as my own.
It's not illegal to deprive a company of a sale to yourself. Anyone can make anything for themselves.
