    whats this?

Found where my oil leak is coming from. It was pumping up inside this wire over the distributor cap and going into the harness under the intake mani.

Its down by the a/c and oil filter.

    thanks

its some sort of temp sensor if i remember correctly? try tightening the actual sensor first, if that doesn't help, the sensor is probably fried.

its tight, but its pumping oil up inside the wires insulation. just need to find out what it is so i can pick up a new one... leaking a quart of synthetic oil a day is breaking my bank.

Change the sender. It leaking between the crimp around the plastic.
It is the oil pressure sender. oil is squirting out at close to 60 psi.

the level sensor is in the pan, not upside down in the block. it's also 3 pins, not 1.

Oil is pumping though the wire?

Many times there is oil on that wire but the sensor is not the source of the leak. It is from the oil cooler fitting above it.

Mine leaked right here and dripped onto that wire so I thought it was my oil pressure switch.

yes, oil pumping through the wire. the dummy light sensor commonly starts to leak through the sensor case itself. you can see the connector and plug are full of oil as well, a drip from above isn't going to do that.

Is this just caused by overtightening the sensor?

no, it just fails after a while.
