    1991 318is mpg

Ok guys, I've looked around and about, and it seems the 318is only gets about 25mpg highway (government website lists the mpg of the car according to window sticker from back in 91). Thing is I used to own a 1991 318i (4-door stick shift M42 obviously) and it seems to have been getting better mileage as far as I recall. What is the truth behind the numbers. Looking to get out of my 16mpg truck and getting a daily for my 130 mile daily commute. Help is highly apreciated. In the mean time I will keep searching the forums for real life numbers. Thanks guys.

I believe that it is above 30? I'd be interested as well.

I often get between 28-30 mpg hwy. I use 91 octane fuel every time, usually add a can of seafoam once a month, and thats it. I've noticed that wind affects my MPG quite a bit, not uncommon for mileage to drop around 3mpg on bad days..

So swapping the diff would practically put me WELL over the 3Ompg range? That's great, I can now drop the fit, yaris and all others from my potential list, and just go ahead and get me the 318is i found. Great, thanks for the help guys.

only plus to one of those eco shit boxes is a warranty and no break down fears (well less).

but i try to tell people that alot... get a cheaper older beater that gets good gas mileage (e30 is top of that while still being extremely fun car) and just spent a tiny fraction of what you would with a new eco shit box.. save on insurance.. get maybe 5-8 mpg worse (sometimes even better) and not deal with a car payment or any other nonsense.

The best I've seen on a long drive was 37mpg. Worst was 24. No PS, electric fan, 3.64 diff, EV6 injectors.
