The reason for the inscription on the passenger side is due to the distance between the driver and mirror. On the drivers side it is around a meter from the drivers eyes to the mirror, and the mirror to where the driver sits parallel to the centerline of the car. On the passenger side you have to look across the car, plus the distance from the mirror back to drivers position, effectively adding another meter to the perceived distance in the mirror. Simply trace your line of sight.

Side note, McLaren F1's have symmetrical lines of sight out of the side mirrors.

Don't do this 'mod' unless the glass in your drivers mirror is broken, and you only have a passenger side spare.

For a real cheap mod, well it's a BMW shit ain't cheap.
I'm pretty sure it also has to do with the fact that the passenger mirror is convex.

          Speaking of wrong information...

The passenger mirror is slightly convex, which allows you to see a bit more, but distorts the distance you perceive. Try putting a driver's side mirror over there... it's different.

don't change your oil, that saves tons of money. and use your neighbor's hose for coolant.

oh and shoving toilet paper in a used oil filter keeps you from having to get a new one.

Chill first off, second my car must have an ultra rare non convex mirror. If it is convex I can't see it. I also read this as a serious post asking just asking to be screwed with and shat on. Also the only possibility of misinformation is that the mirror is indeed convex instead of flat as I said. I may have an aftermarket mirror for all I know. The information about effective sight range is still 100% accurate.

That all being said. How do you not recognize the car McLaren F1?

Another even cheaper way to have better mirrors is to kick them out wide, completely removing your blind spots.

Please return to your normal r3v. Time for me to get some drink.

And +1 to cleaning out the car and removing random stuff. First thinkg I did when I got the car was clean it. Pulled out about 10 lbs worth of useless crap, and found a screw driver from the PO and $1.73 in change! I effectively got paid for a weight reduction mod
