need some engine build advice

Like some of you may know I recently finished my engine build. Well the engines in the car and everything is ready to go. I finally began to add fluids a few days ago and check for leaks before the initial start up.

Here's my issue. After closely inspecting everything I noticed I have a small oil leak. Keep in mind every seal and every gasket is new. Its a slow leak, possibly one to two drips per day coming right off the bell housing.

I've noticed seep around several of my new gaskets (all are factory paper gaskets)

Im wondering if the heat from running the engine will cause the metal to expand enough and seal the small leak, wherever it may be??
Has anyone had experience with this when doing a rebuild/ refresh?

Im expecting the worse in this case and I am about to accept the fact that I will have to pull the motor and find the leak. :hitler: :hitler: :hitler: Im fucking pissed about it.

yes positive its oil. just added fresh castrol and sure enough its seepin out

If it's coming out of the bellhousing, it's your rear main.

Retorque everything when the engine is hot.

rear main is brand new tho... I havent even cranked the engine over yet

I don't know what to tell you. Put it up on some jackstands and grab a flashlight and locate the source of the leak.

Sounds stupid, but since I started using Right Stuff this just doesn't happen to me anymore.

What brand gaskets did you use? Victor Reinz has been slacking in quality over the last five or six years.

did you put a little grease on the inside lip of the seal where it rides on the crank?

i have seen them rip or tear on initial start up from a dry seal riding on the crank surface.

you said that you had not cranked it over yet though, right?

i have seen it happen just turning it over while building the motor too, but that was usually with questionable seals though.

as far as the gaskets are concerned i have always used loctite/wurth anarobic gasket sealant and never had an issue.

All my gaskets are victor reinz... didnt seem like the quality was bad but now im having second thoughts. I Think the leak is coming from mainly my upper oil pan seal, and partially from the timing case.

yea i used engine assembly lube on all the seals. basically im wondering if i start the engine and run the car will the leaks subside due to heat and expansion of metal?? seems unlikely at this point, but again the leaks are very small.

Two thumbs down from me. I won't touch their stuff anymore. I know the guys down at Metric Mechanic had a really bad run in with a series of gaskets from VR about 3-5 years ago.

man this is shitty. I really hope I dont have to tear this thing down all over again due to shitty product. I had no idea VR has had some bad reviews. I figured well if the dealer uses it then I should do the same.

I would have been better off using gasket maker from the beginning I believe

I only used Grey RTV when I redid my oil pan gasket, and only red RTV on my thermostat housing.
