what does the pulse sensor do on an eta?

    what does the pulse sensor do on an eta?

    as the title suggests, was wondering what the pulse sensor does on my eta.

    I don't understand why it exists when there are already 2 speed sensors on the bell houseing.

    if you didn't know, i'm referring to sensor on the fly wheel hub at the front of the engine.

    I believe this is strictly for diagnosis only and has no bearing on the engine actually running. The two sensors on the bellhousing are what gives the computer info for engine speed and timing.

      but etas use motronic 1.0, which doesn't have any diagnostic capabilities.

        By "flywheel hub" at the "front" of the engine, do you mean crank pulley? I don't remember a sensor being there on my eta.

        Or do you mean the pulse sensor on the plug wires. Also eta doesn't have that.

          i'm referring to the sensor on the front of the engine, that reads the crank pulley.

            I shouldn't talk out of my ass so much, but when the tab on the flywheel of my car broke and I was pulling my hair out trying to diagnose the problem, I remember the Bentley manual stating that the front sensor was for diagnosis only. Exactly what that means, I don't know.

                I know it will run right because it doesn't go to the ecu at all. It goes to the diagnostics port.

                      Yup, that confirms what I thought. I guess the dealer could plug in a diagnostics computer into the service port and the front sensor is used for engine timing diagnostics.
