Congrats. I'm in the process of this with a $500 ticket.

How did you win? Officer not write back, or did the Judge swayed towards your appeal?

Trying to evade punishment for your actions is why children blame the dog for something they did instead of manning up and taking what they have coming to them.

On another note, saying that the 'cops are puppets to collect extra revenue' truly shows your immaturity. These 'puppets' as you call them are the same reason idiots like you are likely still alive. These 'Puppets' deserve your respect and while a few do get out of line, they do a insanely difficult job that I and many others would never do.

As far as saying 'the road I was speeding on could indicate the limit should be 45'. Well, guess what, its not, it was a 35 and im sure you knew that full and well before you a ticket for 48 on it. The officer who gave you a ticket knew that, and he was doing his job.

Good luck fighting your ticket, it sounds like your too scared to face the officer who gave you the ticket in the first place or a judge. I hope you pay out the ass for wasting their time.
are you aware that insurance companies give radar detectors to police departments? whats in it for them? well, if you get caught speeding they get to raise your rate.

and how about all the traffic courts that prosecute without a prosecutor? cops arent lawyers, they are just witnesses. If the judge is the prosecutor it can't be a fair trial. so how can the case proceed if no one is bringing charges against you?

        OP: congrats!

I'm not exactly sure on the details yet. I just saw online that I was found not guilty and received a paper in the mail saying the same and that the clerk will pay me my $230 dollars back. I'll let you know when I get more details!

          good luck with your ticket!
thats a lot of money. what did you do to get such an expensive ticket?

Oh sweet and thanks I'd love to know.

With all the little fees it was actually $497.
Went into a "late yellow" left turn. Motorcycle cop said it was red.

If youre in the intersection you are obligated to wait for passing traffic to pass until it is safe so you can turn. WHat the fuck did he expect you to do? Wait in the intersection during the whole red light as well?? Unless you were coming and trying to beat the light, then I can see where he would have grounds for a ticket. But still, you can beat it. Im so glad people are getting hip to this whole situation.

Wow that is way too much for something like that. I guess it is dangerous, but it could always be an accident.

I'm not sure on how you would fight something like that.
I think something like that is more of here say, your word against the officers.

Something you should try to do is extend the court date as much as you can.
Make as much time go by as possible. Its free and easy, just took me forever to get on the phone with the clerks here

Word. I wasn't trying to beat it. I was just in time for it with fractions of more time to spare. Hell, there was a mini-van parallel on my right making a left on the lane next to me as well to me lol.
He put on the ticket says I was going 20mph.

You should have got on extension of the courtesy notice due date and then turned in your TBD like 3 or so days before the extended due date.
                    thats what I did

What did your courtest notice say the due date is.

in general, if you are a college student trying to save money by avoiding tickets, the first step is to stop speeding. this is coming from a recent college grad who was pulled over several times while he was in college, sometimes for pretty stupid things. it just isn't worth it.
The speed limits are set artifically low in most cases for the simple fact of revenue. And, in the CVC (California Vehicle COde) the "speed limit" is not a hard limit, it is a suggested speed. One of which is arrived at by taking the average speed of traffic on that road, subtracting that by 10% and then further reduced by rounding down to the nearest mutiple of 5.... It is not for safety. It is blatantly a money maker and it is one that cops and municipalities benefit from all the misinformation and myths about it. In the CVC it states that if the conditions permit, it is completely legal to go above the posted limit. Furthermore, no where does it state that you can NOT under any circumstances go faster than the posted speed limit. So whatever the cop tells you about that, is complete bullshit. The courts know that no one wants to go to court to fight this so they just pay up, they take advantage of that. They also make no mention ANYWHERE of being able to fight it through mail. Now, why do you think that is?? FIrstly, the cop doesnt get paid overtime when having to write his version of events to the judge in your case, unlike when they turn up for court appearances where they do get paid OT. Secondly, there is very little chance that wthout seeing your face, the cop will remember the specifics of your case through the mail when he has to recall a speeding ticket he issued 2 months ago. ANd thirdly, a lot of times they are too busy or just dont care enough to write their version of events back to the judge, in which case you automatically win, even if all you wrote on your paper was "Im not guilty". You still win. Fourthly, even if you do bring a good case to court, there are very few judges that are willing to go against an "officer of the law" in open court so the odds are more than stacked against you, yet conveniently, they dont mention that there is a much more fair and convenient process to your regular citizen. People take the cops word as God and its just not so. Blind obedience is never good, and the courts and municipalities know they have a cash cow in the fact that most people believe there is no chance to beat a ticket. But, including our friend here, I have witnessed and personally been responsible for getting myself off of 3 tickets and my brother 2. Not to mention people I have put up on game that have been found not guilty. Its not just a fact of "Just dont go above the posted limit" thats like saying "Oh, well just dont complain when they lower your pants and rail you, itll be easier on you". They blatantly and without remorse or consideration are taking advantage of the ignorance of the people so its not fair to talk to the ones that ARE enlightened in a negative way. Plus their whole premise is false anyways and the cops get away with issuing bogus tickets so its not like they have great moral footing either, if you want to argue it like that.

                            No. 1. Traffic School?

No. 2 Go see the Clerk of Court, plead not guilty. They are going to give you a trial date. 20 days before the trial date, go see the the COC and request for an extension. Chances are, the officer will not remember the case and will not appear. If he appears, you can ask how we determined your speed. If he clocked you with a radar. Radar should be calibrated with a tuning fork and documented. Request for the document.

If he paced you, the patrol car's speedometer should be calibrated and documented. He should provide that document. If he can't provide, motion for dismissal.

No. 3 Hire a lawyer for $500 to represent you. Choyce Law Firm in SF. Let me know how it goes. I've gotten out several speeding tickets by appearing in court. One time I got off while the officer was there in court to prove his case. I was going over 100mph. Long story, I won. Right now, cruise control is my best friend.

                            No. 3 Stop speeding!

I am going to fight it using Trial by Written Declaration. I am just a little confused on the whole process. I have the form to request a written trial. Do I bring that the day of my trial on my paper and give it to the clerk?
Should I extend my court date once and then request the written trial?

I also need a little bit of help on what to write. I'm going to fight that the speed was not unsafe for traffic and weather conditions, because it was sunny outside with very low amounts of traffic. I am going to say that the motorcycle cop did not write the number of his lidar gun on the ticket and he has to prove his was calibrated.
I also am going to request that a speed survey be provided by the cop to prove that my speed was unsafe.
Not sure if it matters but I am a full time student and this is my first speeding ticket.
                            Is that good?

                              Well guys,

Another victorious mission accomplished! Just got out of a left turn ticket with the help of the ticket assassin procedure. With the help of a strategically placed branch as well as some pictures I was able to stick it to the man on an ill placed "no left turn" sign. Got me out of $300!
