and by 'spirited' i don't mean redline runs and launches, just peppy driving.1989 325is / 2.7, 274 cam, e30 M3 5-lug

If you are saying a e30 with the 2.7 is slow, and that a e28 will be even slower.
Then I am saying, that I dont care. Any car can be driven fast. Those cars I referenced above are a citroen 2cv, a saab 95 wagon (ford V4), and a four pot Alfa Romeo Alfetta sedan.
E28s will surely be funComment

i never said slow, i said inefficient. and as for the 2.7, i'm not sure. haven't driven an eta in a while, but that's not what i'm comparing anyways.1989 325is / 2.7, 274 cam, e30 M3 5-lug

Just for the record:
My M20B25 averages 23-24 mpg. Same as most 10+ year old 4cyl automatic cars like a camry, jetta, sonata etc, though 28-29 mpg isnt out of the question when taking it easy and cruising....
0-60 is in the 6's so it isn't exactly a slouch. I think most people just don't fix/tune them properly.Comment

I don't think you're understanding me. Acceleration and efficiency are completely different things.
Also, I have done several mods to my white car and I can't get 6 sec range 0-60 times or 28 mpg. I believe a manual 3:73 manual b25 from the factory was rated at 7.6 sec to 60...so unless your auto is truly automagic, neither are you.1989 325is / 2.7, 274 cam, e30 M3 5-lug

I would say you can definitely feel the e30 being more nimble but having all that space in the e28 makes it a great cruiser. Imagine the e30 being the rice rocket and the e28 being the street/touring combo IMHO.Comment

And also I understand what you are saying about efficiency.
And an old BMW is an old BMW. E28s would still be better than any honda..Comment

Obviously you've done some other things to your car then. That's fine, but I'm not here for a dick-measuring contest. The reality is that a stock-ish m20b25 will typically get under 20 mpg city, and a larger/heavier m30 will likely earn itself 15 mpg or less when driven in the same manner..which imo isn't justifiable to the relatively low power outputs of the motors. My two cents.
That said, Id be down for a 528e.1989 325is / 2.7, 274 cam, e30 M3 5-lug
