    new to E30

just wanted to introduce myself and ask a few questions. picked up my 87 325i today and love it, but i have a few questions. Ive been reading alot of posts on here and it looks like my e30 might be a bit low on performance as opposed to other stock 325s, any ideas on what i could check to see if i could eke some more power out of it? and i want to get into working on my new baby mechanically a little bit, but keep it as my daily driver, any weekend projects you guys can recommend for a newbie? hope to hear from everyone soon.

"The Camry is an appliance, not a car. It attracts folks who have the same regard for driving that they have for washing dishes,
i.e. it's a necessary but somewhat unpleasant chore and they want something to make the task a little easier and insulate them from the process."

          Maintenance, then mods. Enjoy it.

Yes do take care of the maintenance first.
Then everyone will tell you to go super low, get mtech bumpers, bib brake kits, and a swap.
            Welcome.

                timing belt/water pump first
                check brakes, flush fluid
                change all fluids
inspect air boot and motor/tranny mounts
                distributorcap/rotor
wires rarely go bad check resistance.. if they are even , run them as is
check front end and associated wear components
                inspect rear bushings
                drive

how many miles and any service records? But like blunt said pretty much nails it on the head of what to look over. Maybe give it a valve adjustment and check you cap on the plugs and even a compression test if its high miles and you think its running poorly. Check for vacuum leaks and yes do your timing belt if you don't know when it was done last, luckily these cars are easy and fun to work on.
