I'm going to have to agree, it's all about your connections that get you jobs.

I work for the City of Meridian here in town, as an IT Admin intern. $7 an hour, 38 hours a week this summer. I have my own office, shared with another IT guy, phone line, cell phone, key to a city car, computer...not to mention access to all the computers in the city, including the Police Department servers. :D

I love the job though, it's got it's perks.

Not to mention that I'll have connections with the Mayor, and MANY other people which is ALWYAS a good thing! :D

    Congrats on the job, man!

By the way - I hate their site. It's BORING! :?

I just have to ROFL at how you need "connections" to get a job for $7-$8 an hour. ;)

I'll keep my 4.0 thank you and I will have no problems landing a job when I'm done. oh, can you say scholarships? 8)

Well, I guess connections did get me a job.

But, for still being in high school, I can't complain.

I have a 3.8, and I got zero scholarships. I really didn't apply to any, I was just not on top of things. But, not even my college gave me any. :? So, for everyone else still in HS, apply to every scholarship out there! I was told that numerous times, but never listened...

Oh, were you talking to me, or Robert?

There is much more to getting a job after college besides grades.

Work experience (internships) is a huge part. Just because you get a 4.0 doesn't mean you'd be good for a job.

On top of that, working well with others is a major one. If you work good in a team, and people get along well with you, it goes a VERY long wase!

I feel sorry for the people who go through school getting a 4.0 but in the end can't get a job interview because they don't know anyone. I know a ton of people. I had an interview at a bank Thursday whose president was my former teacher's wife. It's who you know as much as what you know.
If you hand a company a resume with a 4.0 GPA and no work experience, they'll throw it in the garbage. With a high GPA like that, they're going to assume you're a bookworm with zero communication skills that can only function on point to point instructions. They'll see you as a number cruncher. If they need one of those, they can get an H1b to do the job at 1/3 the cost.

              Just food for thought.

$10.50 an hour to watch a hotel pool in D.C. and have free lunch and dinner on the hotel. Free valet underground parking (but I park it myself). Is this a good job?

                      Still want more money....

10 years towards your career choice?

                        Joe's Video Rental doesn't count.

                        Just playing, though man ;)

Exactly. It took me 9 months to find my engineering job. Pumping out hundreds of resumes on the internet didn't do a thing. You have to go out and network, show them that you're interested in the field, take the initiative to get additional training that puts you ahead of other candidates, etc.

Congrats on the job man, sounds like a good company!
