    keyless entry battery drain

So, yesterday when I started my e30, the engine made some funny noises when I started it. It would start eventually and today it wouldn't start at all.

I'm wondering if it could be that the keyless entry system I installed could be draining the battery.

This is yesterday, when I eventually started it but with lots of trouble.

This is today, when it refuses to start.

    Any ideas?

EDIT: All the lights still work. The engine just doesn't start.

Your battery sounds very weak, how old is it? Batteries dont like cold weather, particularly weak ones. I would charge the battery and get it load tested or try to start the car with a volt meter across the batt. See what happens then.

I'm gonna assume the battery is pretty old. I bought the e30 a couple months ago from the PO and haven't replaced it.

I have a voltmeter, I don't what to look for when testing. Also, is it just a bad battery? or is the new keyless entry system actually a drain. It's the Omega 43T, one from ebay.

I got the Omega 43T. I looks like this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/OMEGA...#ht_3550wt_851)

I mounted it with zipties between the two rear lights. I took the power from the antenna wire. It's a little hard to reach but it's the only constant 12v I could find. Do you want me to PM you some pictures?

I got the IC Dynamics 6RTA. A member on S14 says he mounted his to the truck lock actuator.

Charge the battery, and unplug the keyless entry.

(or you a multimeter to find how much current the key-less entry is using . Or find the current drain for the whole car. Or...)

Not really an option, the system is soldered, liquid electrical tape, and electrical taped up. Haha.

I could still test it, but could it really be that significant of a drain?

Don't blame that stupid keyless system, there is no way it can make a drain like that...besides, the lights are still bright.

Your starter is taking a shit OR your battery is crapping out or both.

                      Keep it simple, right?

Usually, the supplied harness just unplugs from the brain.

Pop your headlights on and watch them as you crank the car. Do they remain bright?

I put the highbeams on and then cranked the car. The lights go out as soon as I try to start the car.
