Well, nothing to congratulate for just yet.
This is going to be a manufacturer. Nothing new is going to happen in the next 2 months except getting things into place to turn this idea into an actual business. There are LOTS of steps to be taken, legal issues, tax stuff, supplier agreements, products to be designed, packaging, finding an appropriate location, employees, all of that jazz.
However, here are the basics:
German Audio Specialties will build Electronics
BimmerBoxes will build subwoofers
Guten Sound will sell them
You, Mr Consumer, will install them.
See how this works?
Rule #1: Luke MUST NOT be working on cars by the end of 2012. I have physical issues that prevent me from working on cars, or that is the route I would take in the first place because that is my first love...but I can't, it is literally killing me. I hurt 24/7 and I either need to change careers OR go to work for someone else (no, I don't play well with others) OR go into manufacturing...so this seems the best choice for me.
Thanks good thoughts!
thanks,
Luke

Just as a note, these 2 sites will only be an electronic guide to what we build and how to install them...basically a brochure on the web. A nice little showcase for our customers cars and installs, maybe a little forum space, but that is all.
If all goes right you will be buying the products from GutenParts (Guten Sound!), not GAS or BB directly. All part of the plan that fermented while I was sick last week.

So what type of manufacturing we talking? Loudspeakers or crossovers or what?
GASs first product is going to be a 10 channel passive crossover network, intended to allow "modern" BMWs (E32 and newer) to bypass the factory amp altogether. This means better quality sound, even if using only an aftermarket deck for power. The goal is the ability to use better quality power with the stock speakers, or upgrade the speakers, or both.
This crossover will eventually be available as a "plug and play" install on some cars, but the availability of the plugs might be a deterrent to that idea.
Later, I want to develop a "magic box" that will integrate the fiber optic cars (E90 and E92, for example) to use the stock deck with aftermarket amplifiers, again completely bypassing the stock amp...that will be a major money maker. Hardly anyone is happy with the SQ of their E90 (E65 or whatever too, they all suck), even with the top of the line system. If I can intercept a digital signal and do the analog conversion to feed proper amplifiers, these cars would sound terrific at a fraction of the cost of repairing their failed factory components.
They will be available for different configurations, like H/K speakers or standard, with or without the factory subwoofer or not, DSP or not, etc.
The goal is to not have to take apart the interior of these cars AT ALL, with the only modification being in the trunk, and only "visible" if you want it to be.
BimmerBoxes is going to make subwoofer boxes, amp racks, and optional cosmetic panels for the GAS crossovers. They will be fully finished, ready to add your woofer and bolt in.
Woofers and amps have so little profit margin and so much hassle with returns...I just don't want to mess with it. Leave that to Crutchfield and Sonicelectronix!
The classic R3V box will still happen, but only on R3V, and only until BB and GAS are fiscally viable. I will not compete with myself! The "commercial" version will be 100% upholstered so it will be more expensive, but no one will see bare MDF in their trunk when they are being too lazy to finish their install!
First thing I need though is a circuit board designer. Hmmmm...wonder where I would find one of those? I know of 3 or 4 guys on here that are qualified, but I would be honored if I could put a tag that said "Circuit Board Design by George Graves" or something like that on every one!

You will be cutting wires to install it, so be prepared.

The same guy who came up with "GOT E30?" also dropped "GOT GAS?".

congratulations luke. I would love to have that crossover setup for the e36. i have the 10 speaker "hi-fi" setup without the switch. the amp for it seems to over heat, and after about an hour or so of running it at high volume the sound gets "muddy"
