1978 euro E24 - is this gud kar

Found on a side street near where I live. It drives like a boat, needs a passenger door, has a distributor, some motor problems I haven't identified yet, and a dogleg trans!

Owner wants 1100 for it. Should I bother? Pics coming soon.

If the car is rustfree, it is a good car to have. Somewhat bulky though. Hopefully it is not one of the first ones assembled by Bauer (630i). The car didn't even passed the water spray test. Leaks everywhere. In 1978, the car had "thermal reactors" on the exhaust side that made the head crack. Hopefully your car is exempt of them...

It is a 635csi. LSD, dogleg, the "good" M90, surprisingly intact leather interior. Looks to be mostly rust-free. It has short european bumpers, not the huge american ones, too.

On the flip side, the motor idles at 1500, with a distinct lumpiness, and throws a bit of smoke until it warms up. Not sure what that could be if it's pre-FI.

Get it. I had a 1979 Euro 635CSi and that was the pimpest car I ever owned. If yours already has the buffalo leather Recaros, you are golden. Go! Go! Go! What are you waiting for? ;-)

well, seeing as I have a bit of a soft spot for e24s, particularly euro ones, that sounds like a good deal...waiting on pics for a final decision though.

The e24 dogleg is the old generation 5CR. Not the same as the newer ones as found in the e30 M3. I think it had to do with the synchro material. Also, as sexy as it seems, a dogleg tranny is a pain in the arse around town...

Lee please find a dogsled owner up there and ask him if he would be willing to teach you to drive. Because its apparent you know not of what you speak. Why is a dogleg a pain in the ass around town?? I have one in my 02 and Id prefer it over any od 5 speed.

Well Blunt. I had a 635CSI for four years... Did you have an e24 that I wasn't aware of?

So being gigolo with old grannies only makes you an expert gerontophile. You're not the "tranny" expert you thought you were... ;)

call it a momentary lapse of judgment . Once i realize how old she was i traded her in on a newer model. A 1912 Stutz Bearcat

EDIT I will concede the title of Canadian tranny expert belongs to you

                              haha

pretty good deal on a 6er. my bother just got a euro '80 635csi, fast neat car he only had to order a $50 part to get his running, sounds like the one you are looking at needs some more work but still worth a lot

No one makes this car anymore. The government won't allow them, normal people won't buy them. So it's up to us: the freaks, the weirdos, the informed. To buy them, to appreciate them, and most importantly, to drive them.
