That was originally the symbol for cars meant to be tuned by Alpina, but then they said "nahh, fuck that.. this is just going to be badged e30."

apparently, this specific symbol was from an NY dealer:
from a PM I got:
"Kinda cool story.
My first 87 325is came out of Ny and had the same symbol next too the 325i. I always though it was a zelda fan too the extreme's car.
This summer when i was selling some parts to a e30 owner i noticed his e30 had it as well. His car was a 91 325i that had also come from NY.
he however had records that showed that it was a dealer from NY that had put those symbols on the car.
Your car was originally from NY! The symbol seems kinda cool to me now. RIP too my first e30 though!
