    Ariel Atom V8

    Holy hell!

Over 900HP per ton. They are only making 25 of them and 20 are already pre-ordered.

they are being elusive as to what the power plant is but I have a feeling it is the same powertec V8 that powers the Radical SR8, with the same pneumatic paddle shift mechanism (which is actually rather shit)

Top Gear said it was two bike engines fused together. Ariel's website says they are made in the US.

I think they use a variant of this engine? Someone clarify?

not two engines fused together, it is a custom block with heads from a hyabusa. The motors will go about 30 hours between rebuilds that are $10-$15K
per. This is going to be one expensive car to maintain. We ran Powertec 1500CC motors in the radicals when I ran that program. The sequential shifter was so much better than the paddles, but everyone wants a paddle shift!

I remember when they used to make the atom in ashland, oregon. Sad you can't see atoms flying through southern oregon anymore.

The V8 version is basically a poor man's F1 car. I'd much rather have the turbo version, and be able to afford maintaining it. It's still cool as hell though.

Oh, apparently there's a spec atom (racing series) now...

When did they shut that down there? I've seen one in Hillsboro behind Alta motorsports.

This was Clarkson that said that and I think he was being very general about it. When you look at it, it does look like two engine put together and I think that's what he meant.
